whatever, i like all of these guys, drinks on me everybody
If we were to quantify it, Buehrle is the guy that gives you a 3-star outing most of the time he takes the mound, but he will rarely ever give you significantly more or less than that. Whereas Johnson and Morrow are both capable of 5-star outings, but also the occasional 1 or 2-star clunker. It's that potential to go out and single-handedly shut a team down on any given night that puts the two of them ahead of Buehrle in the rotation.

Even though this proves the Jays will spend, I can't see them spending that much more on a single player now. It's also not as smart. We've just added star power/talent to the roster, better to take the leftover money and spread it out to fill holes than to plug one single hole with another name.

Romero, Morrow, Johnson, Buehrle and Drabek has potential to be a good rotation, what do you guys think about Drabek though? Will he start? I also want to move JPA to first base and roll d'Arnaud and Buck as our catchers.
Drabek isn't of consequence for the 2013 season. If we see him at all, it won't be until the closing weeks of hte year since he's having TJ surgery again.

and I can't believe this keeps needing to be restated: JP Arencibia at 1B is a terrible, awful, completely undefendable move. The fact that he's a godawful hitter outside of HRs is forgivable when he's a catcher because like 90% of MLB catchers are godawful hitters who don't have his power. But if you moved him to 1B, he suddenly becomes almost the single worst hitting 1B in the league with middling power for the position. And no defence.

So...the biggest and best part of this deal is that the Blue Jays will most likely still have a top ten farm system in baseball. That's insanity, and a credit to AA and the job he has done accruing young talent.

Just look at the TSN bio pages on the players. They have a pretty decent Assets, Flaws, and Career Potential analysis on every player.

Yep thats the insane part.
We still have lots of ammunition to make other things happen. We didnt trade what some would say is 4 of our top 5 guys (d'Arnaud, Gose, Syndergaard and Sanchez).

Remember the Joe Thornton to San Jose trade? Thornton to SJ for Sturm, Brad Stuart, and Wayne Primeau?

Well, imagine that, but if the Bruins also threw in Chara (who they didn't have yet, but let's ignore that fact) and Patrice Bergeron (pre-injuries) and the Sharks only had to add Alyn McCauley and prospects outside their top 5.

That's kind of what it's like.

6:44pm: The Marlins are chipping in $4MM in the trade and right-hander Anthony DeSclafani will be a part of the trade, a source tells Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun-Sentinel (via Twitter).

6:42pm: Jeff Mathis will go to the Marlins in the trade, according to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun (via Twitter). Meanwhile, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com (via Twitter) hears from a source that Arencibia will not be a part of the swap.

6:31pm: The trade has is not yet official as MLB doesn't have all the details, but one official involved in the deal says that he has no concern that the commissioner's office will nix the deal, Rosenthal tweets.

Still need to beef up the right side of the infield, and maybe something to replace Happ. I'm not sold on him yet. It would've been perfect to slide in a Drabek or Hutchison into this rotation, but that doesn't seem plausible anymore due to the whole TJ situation
