everyone over at the marlins board is pissed about Emilio Bonifacio coming our way apparently, strange.. lol seemed like it was a throw in to me at the beginning!
and we get to keep JPA! this is niceeee!
I am sad to see Escobar go, he really turned it around when he was here (except for that outburst last season). I am hoping Reyes will be better than last season and JJ will not get injuried (his W/L looks kinda bad last year though)
I wonder who starts opening night... they could go with Morrow since he has ace stuff and he was our best pitcher last season... They could go with JJ because he's arguably the best pitcher of the bunch and is considered an ace by some... Or they could go with Burhlhe because he's the most consistent and he's a veteran. If Romero bounces back this rotation is elite
Lol no. Buehrle is more consistent, but Johnson & Morrow are both better than him. 2011 Romero would've been too. Realistically the rotation is:
Awesome deal for the jays. Romero is now our # 4 pitcher, and we pick up a shortstop who can be one of the best in the league. The Jays just became a potential contender overnight. AA's methodical accumulation of talent is paying off; he didn't panic and waited to make the right move. The Jays now have a nice blend of youth and experience, I can't wait for next season.
I am not familiar with MLB players around league as I am with NHL. I hear this is a great trade for the Jays.
Can someone give a hypothetical NHL trade that this would compare to? I know this is a very different league, with different player value, etc. but it would help understand the scope of the trade. Thanks.
and I can't believe this keeps needing to be restated: JP Arencibia at 1B is a terrible, awful, completely undefendable move. The fact that he's a godawful hitter outside of HRs is forgivable when he's a catcher because like 90% of MLB catchers are godawful hitters who don't have his power. But if you moved him to 1B, he suddenly becomes almost the single worst hitting 1B in the league with middling power for the position. And no defence.
And if Arencibia isn't trade/we don't sign a new DH, would you rather have Cooper/Sierra DHing?
Anyways, the more likely scenario is D'Arnaud plays 1B and is weaned on catcher and seeing if Arencibia can improve his hitting. What if Arencibia hits .250/.310/.485 next season? It might be a good idea to keep him, his value won't go down, and if it goes up great if not no harm done. And it's better to wean D'Arnaud at 1B/DH/C than throwing him the starting job with not MLB experience.
That is a stupidly well rounded team. It's not missing much in terms of needs. Josh Johnson gives us an ace. Reyes a legit lead off hitter.
This is what has me pumped up the most, it's not the other players aren't great but we have been missing that since Doc left...my good god can you imagine if Morrow is coming back as well??? To an ace like form, yeesh.
Remember the Joe Thornton to San Jose trade? Thornton to SJ for Sturm, Brad Stuart, and Wayne Primeau?
Well, imagine that, but if the Bruins also threw in Chara (who they didn't have yet, but let's ignore that fact) and Patrice Bergeron (pre-injuries) and the Sharks only had to add Alyn McCauley and prospects outside their top 5.
