Meh. Livan was 21 when he signed with the Marlins. It's almost the same as a college player who was drafted at the same age. And yeah, you are correct about Hanley. But he still won the rookie of the year award as a Marlin, meaning he really started his Major League career as a Marlin (even though he was a September call-up with the Red Sox in 2005). Livan and Hanley were still unproven young prospects when they became Marlins.
Hanley did all of his development with the Red Sox though. The fact that he stepped in and immediately won rookie of the year just proves it. Hernandez was the same thing, he was an established player who stepped in and made an immediate impact. He was fully developed by the time he became a Marlin. He didn't toil in the minor leagues developing his skill, and it is also highly probable he was not actually 21. Very good chance he fudged his age to come over.

Jays on top by a healthy margin, but the Marlins shouldn't feel bad about this deal. They got good pieces and shed an ungodly amount of salary, but even with that, I think they could have gotten more
