Well we will now get a chance to see if Bud Selig would ever use the best interest of baseball clause because this basically kills Miami market for baseball, by the same guy who killed Montreal.

Fantastic move for the Jays !!!!!!

Glad to see Mark Buehrle back in the AL... one of the most underated pitchers in the game IMO.

Fire sale by the Marlins? You don't say - this time it is among the dumbest considering the new stadium after signing a bunch of FAs to big contracts last season and then trading all of them along with the face of their franchise (Hanley)

Jays pitching now looks like; Buehrle, Johnson, Happ, Romero, Morrow and the lineup consisting of Bautista, Encarnacion, Rasmus, Reyes, Lawrie

Reyes, Buehrle, and Johnson gone already. Rumors are that Stanton is going next.

What the hell happened in Miami?!

if the Marlins trade Stanton they better get one HELL of a deal after getting fairly low returns for they're other trades, with the exception of the Tigers trade

EDIT: TSN keeps updating the deal, seems weird to trade Mathis before he even gets a chance to play any games on his new extension

Followed Ozzie to Miami ,, With Ozzie being fired I assume Buehrle is happy to get out of there

Trade looks like this fully

Quote:
Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi
The deal, unofficially: Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, Bonifacio, Buck for Escobar, Hechavarria, Alvarez, Nicolino, Marisnick, Mathis, DeSclafan
With 2 rival executives saying Ricky Nolasco is next one gone in Miami and with Stanton/Other Marlins left voicing anger/frustration via social media at the actions of Marlins

Status quo, that's what happened I'm actually shocked they traded Reyes because of his off-field value, but hey that's how they roll down in Miami.

Anyone still going to argue the Yankees are a bigger joke than the Marlins? At least the Yankees don't spend money one offseason then unload everyone in a fire sale the next offseason. The Marlins have done this 'three' times (at least) now.

I did a little research, here's what I concluded:

-Loria built a stadium to that was voted down using public funding
-Invests millions in a free agent frenzy
-Uses new players and stadium to get huge TV deal
-Back loads all the contracts so he pays little in first year
-Sells off all the big earners while pocketing millions

And they say the Yankees are ruining baseball...

How that guy was allowed to own a SECOND team after sandbagging Montreal was beyond me, but you get what you deserve when you go into bed with rats.

MLB wanted leverage over the players negotiated during labor negotiations and didn't lock them out. So they threatened to contract and to do so needed to buy a team to legitimately threaten it. So MLB awung a 3 way deal, the league would buy the Expos, Loria got Florida and John Henry (who owned the Marlins) got the Red Sox.

That three way inside deal is a black mark on baseball.

That is an excellent deal for the Jays. Huge trade though, you never see that many players in a deal normally, in any sport.

The same thing that always happens. The owner decides the team is getting too close to respectability and has a fire sale.

and it also now makes sense why negotiations with Pujols last off season broke off when the Marlins would not include a no trade clause - he and his agent were pretty aware of what leaving the no trade out could have meant and likely would have meant had he signed there

Also, Tigers sign Tori Hunter for 2 years

Feels like Hunter has been in the league forever. Good for him that he was able to get signed by a good team.

And then the Marlins started floating out nonsense like Pujols was really a few years older than he said he was so they didn't want him anyway

Everybody has said that they expect he'll still be there, but I don't think he can stay. With Miami cleaning house though, it would be odd for them to clear out all that salary only to bring part of ARod's in.
