If the Steelers somehow lose to the Chiefs tomorrow, the Titans' win today could prove vital, because they'd still be just 1.5 games back going into the bye week. Pittsburgh has such an easy schedule from here on out, though, that I'm not sure any of the teams chasing them have much of a chance.
the titans suck every year. but whats worse is they always finish around .500 by beating a bunch of crap teams and screw themselves with draft position.

The word you're looking for is "average." The Titans are average, and they occasionally get a really good team and get competitive for 3-4 years and then fall off, like most of the other teams do.
no id classify the titans as below average. not on the suck level of the browns, raiders, bills but pretty close.
The Titans are 106-103 since settling in Nashville, with six playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance. Half the league has appeared in the Super Bowl since the Oilers moved here, so I'd say that makes them average on the whole. It's really difficult to win 12 games consistently in the NFL, especially these days when teams are so even. For 3/4 of the league, every Sunday is totally up in the air.
a .500 record puts them right above the teams I listed. take away their 13-3 season a few years ago where the ravens bounced them in their first game. you can throw stats around all day but look at their wins and games where they actually mean something against quality competition. they are at BEST average. thats giving them a compliment.
look at last seasons 9-7 record.... now look at who they beat. I mean literally almost every win is against crap teams. they beat the horrible teams and don't do anything of significance except secure their crap draft position

Throw out the 13-3? based on what???
They've had 7 seasons over .500 against 4 seasons under .500 and 4 seasons of 8-8. I'd say above average.
Their current situation is due to poor production from their first round picks in the last 10 years, players they've taken have either busted out of the league or been plagued with injury. Anyone who has performed well has jumped ship since Bud won't pay them. Hopefully guys like Jake Locker and Kendall Wright can start to turn that trend around.
throw out the 13-3 record on the fact they choked beyond all belief. the below average broncos last year won more playoff games than that "awesome" titans team

teams with an 8-8 record or better according to season
2011: 20 teams (9-7 titans)
2010: 16 teams (6-10 titans)
2009: 20 teams (8-8 titans)
2008: 21 teams (13-3 titans, 1 & done)
2007: 17 teams (10-6 titans, 1 & done)
2006: 20 teams (8-8 titans)
2005: 18 teams (4-12 titans)
2004: 17 teams (5-11 titans)
looking at final standings, the titans fall below average in 5 of 8 seasons. 2011 id qualify as average but only because of them beating some bad teams on an easy schedule. 2 of the "above average" seasons they were one and done. which imho makes them closer to average.
looking at what they have done and what their state is now i call them below average. a little better than the cellar dwellers. i could see someone saying they are average like WFOME (i disagree).. but you saying above average, absolutely no way

Should the Packers throw out their 15-1 record last season after they choked in their playoff game? The Titans were a 13 win team that lost to an 11 win Ravens team on a field goal in the last minute of the game. That's not choking, that's just losing to a good team in a game that could've gone either way.
The Titans and Ravens both tied for the best point differential in the NFL that year fwiw.
should of, could of, would of... they still lost and choked. and obviously dont throw out 13-3 record ... just dont be touting that year like that they have done something in the past I dont know decade.
you guys really cant be that dim when it comes to seeing what I meant. again, obviously you dont literally throw the season out. anyways back... to how they are below average. see my prior post and try not to nitpick a sentence or two to assort to your liking

if you throw out a 13-3 season, don't you have to throw out the 3-13 season?
Just added up the records that NNC posted. 63-65, completely average. Sure there are years where they are way below average and years where they're way above but for the most part they're average.

.500 would actually be below average in alot of years in the NFL.
and token grinder.... would you read my last post.. obviously you don't toss the record. but in the sense of them getting bounced in their first PO game.. they accomplished nothing. so that season shouldn't be touted like they have had an actual noteworthy since super bowl against the rams. maybe the season they beat the steelers in OT playoff but the raiders spanked them in the divisional playoffs. so i wouldn't even count that. but if you do, that was over a decade ago. they have been pretty much insignificant since coming up a yard short.

Can you agree that for the last however many years you posted the Titans have basically been a .500 team overall with some bad 4-6 win years and other 10 and 13 win years?
If we can agree on that and establish the Titans have been basically an 8 win team, we can look to see if they are average like me and a few others claim or below average like you claim.
2011 - 12 teams won 9 or more games, 7 won 8 games. 38% of teams were over .500, 59% were at least .500.
2010 - 14 teams won 9 or more games, 2 won 8 games. 44% of teams were over .500, 50% were at least .500.
2009 - 15 teams won 9 or more games, 5 won 8 games. 47% of teams were over .500, 63% were at least .500.
2008 - 16 teams won 9 or more games, 5 won 8 games. 50% of teams were over .500, 66% were at least .500.
2007 - 12 teams won 9 or more games, 4 won 8 games. 38% of teams were over .500, 50% were at least .500.
2006 - 12 teams won 9 or more games, 8 won 8 games. 38% of teams were over .500, 63% were at least .500.
2005 - 17 teams won 9 or more games, 1 won 8 games. 53% of teams were over .500, 56% were at least .500.
2004 - 13 teams won 9 or more games, 4 won 8 games. 41% of teams were over .500, 53% were at least .500.
I'll stop there since that's where you stopped.
So on average 4.5 teams are .500 in the past 8 years and 13.9 are over .500. That's 18.4 teams on average in the past 8 years that are at least .500.
The Titans have been over .500 37.5% of the time over the past 8 years compared to the league averaging 43.75% of the teams being over .500. So slightly below average. The Titans have also been .500 25% of the time in the last 8 years compared to the league averaging 14% in any given year.
The Titans have been .500 or better in 62.5% of the years you gave while the average percentage of .500 teams or better in a single season in the NFL is 57.5%.
looking at the stats, i agree. they come off as average. but what puts them right below average for me is absolutely no postseason success and the current state of the franchise
The two Cy Young winners - R.A. Dickey and David Price - were raised 34 miles apart in Middle Tennessee. I'm not sure what school Dickey went to before UTK, but Price went to Blackman before Vanderbilt.
Pretty awesome... now can we get a Major League team, s'il vous plait?

I would say you can make an offer for one of the Florida teams but you said Major League.

Considering the fact that the Rays have been better on the whole than the Red Sox since 2008, and also beat Boston twice in the postseason in that span, you might want to rethink casting such a broad net over the Florida teams.
