Something else I just thought of... remember all those trade for relievers that are basically making nothing and are under control and will be cheap for a long-time. Yeah, maybe this trade is why. Look at what League and Affeldt got. Jays ended up saving tons of money on the bullpen and used that money to go out and really spend money.

Payroll is at nearly 120M now so likely, not much more will be happening but umm... holy ****ing ****. Trades after trades after trades. AA sure is great at that.
If I was to complain about anything is that I would have been ok with them not bringing one piece and saving a couple prospects and going the free agent route on someone. But really that's just me being stupid. It also may have been necessary for AA to bring in all the dollars to save prospects. That's just the stuff we aren't privy to. I'm so happy about all of this it's ridiculous.

As for your comment about the relievers I think your absolutely right. I think AA had an idea that things were gonna get real expensive or that he was gonna have so much money to play with and wanted to clear out bigger contract relievers to make sure he could do as much as possible in the rotation and on the field really.

But can some translate these baseball players into hockey players.

example is this trade equivalent to something like,
Kulemin, Frattin, K.Ryan, Devane, Ross for Perry, Getzlaf, Fowler, Koivu
I think your analogy undervalues the talent the Jays gave up. Here is my assessment of the Equivalent offer from the Leafs (lol).

Leafs trade

Nikolai Kulemin - equivalent to Escobar without the attitude problem
Dave Steckel - equivalent to Jeff Mathis
Matt Finn - equivalent to Justin Nicolino
Joe Colborne - equivalent to Jake Marisnick
Cody Franson - equivalent to Henderson Alvarez
Nazem Kadri - equivalent to Adeiny Hechavarria

in return, they receive

Jamie Benn (equivalent to Johnson)
Loui Eriksson (equivalent to Reyes)
Brendan Morrow (equivalent to Buehrle)
Stephane Robidas (equivalent to John Buck)
Tom Wandell (equivalent to Emilio Bonifascio)

The only problem I have with this is that it's only November. I'm all giddy from this trade that I want baseball back right now.

As of today? About 99%, with Arencibia, Buck and Wilson all established in the majors. But there's lots of winter left, so let's see what other moves Ninjathopolous has up his sleeve. Odds are one of those vets is on the way out the door.

Very high really. Unless AA surprises us with another trade that involves a catcher but even then we have another catcher on our 40 man roster so he should still start the year in AAA. After a season ending injury they'll likely let him play a little to get the rust off. When they think he's ready I'm sure they'll find a way to bring him up.

After a move like this I dont really think we can say the Jays "have a budget" anymore.
Yeah I think Jays can make a signing but I don't think it will be a big one. But yes, at this point, if you can get a player you really like, I think ownership would be okay with it... I mean its only a few more millions.

I think we will see JPA get dealt though.

Hard to say the % but I think TDA thing obviously depends on what they do with JPA (100% if JPA isn't dealt). I think JPA gets dealt... attractive player at this point, and Jays still need a starter with options for depth or an OF. But it wouldn't surprise me either if Jays kept JPA and traded him mid-season to fill whatever need they have and bring TDA up.

Is this trade finalized?

What are the chances that Miami gets cold feet and backs out?

Its happening. It's already through to the league office I'm sure or all major media outlets wouldn't be running with it.

Also Loria and the Marlins knew exactly what they were doing when they made this move. It's not like it was what they thought a borderline move that they realized later was one-sided. This was a conscious effort to blow up the team and payroll in one fell swoop.

The deal is pretty much final right now.

We got Jose ****ing Reyes and Josh ****ing Johnson.

But of course you have to continue your negativity towards the club.

I don't think they can back out now. Like everybody knows about the trade, the players said their goodbyes on twitter. Unless the commissioner says no to the trade (no reason why he would), the deal will go through.

I would have been ecstatic if we had picked up Mark Buehrle.

So that pretty much sums up my emotions with this trade.

The 2011 offseason wish list just became the 2013 roster. And oh yeah we picked up a pitcher with the best stuff since a man named Roy and a dude who swiped 30 bags in half a seasons worth of games.

I absolutely love this deal. The only questions I have now is who plays Left Field, and who plays 1B or DH if Encarnation plays 1B?

Can we start the season already?

My guess as it stands now:

LF: Bonifacio

2B: Maicer Izturis

DH: Lind

1B: EE

Keep in mind the Winter Meetings haven't even started yet. I would say its 75% likely that at least one of these changes before April.

This really puts the Jays up there. Their starting rotation is something else now. The line-up is stuffed with a mix of speed, power and athleticism. This is going to be an exciting team to watch and the off-season just started. Hopefully AA isn't done and he's been given the green light to spend money. The Blue Jays are being very smart and picking their spots on when to spend money, I think some of these guys have been on their radar for a long time (Johnson and Buehrle) and now these guys had no choice but to come to Toronto. This is a huge day for the Blue Jays and baseball in Canada.

People are under rating Bonifacio. This guy is the BEST base stealer in the game. He is also the most versatile player in the game. He is not the equivalent of Tom Wandell. Are you kidding? Normally he would be an ideal lead off hitter. But with Reyes that may be an "issue". Anyway, Bonifacio will not be an alternate on this team, if he is healthy he will be in the lineup, and he will be effective.

I'm actually excited about Bonifacio. He can steal 40 bases.

Amazing move! Just last week I was in here sharing my doubts about ownership giving AA the cash to work in free agency, but they did it!

Looks like we got a premier SS, a #1 and #3 pitcher, upgraded the catcher position bringing back Buck and picked up our 4th outfielder and elite baserunner.

This is incredible. If AA can acquire (and I don't want to be too picky here) a starting second basemen, a reliable (preferably veteran) LF and maybe upgrade DH by getting rid of Lind this team will be a top contender.

Can't believe this! So thrilled!
