Is he a good fit for the Leafs right now? Probably not the best, unless we're picking in a spot where there's a significant drop-off in skill right after him.

Seems very similar to Forsberg for me.

Ryan Pulock - A Maple Leaf tatooed on his Chest

Let the speculation begin:

Ryan wears a Maple Leaf on his chest to honour Brock, who died in a car crash at age 13

Quote:
There’s a chunk of Ryan Pulock’s heart that wants him to be drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs next June. It’s likely the very part covered by a tattoo to honour his late brother.

Pulock — the Brandon Wheat Kings strapping, heavy-shooting defenceman projected to be a top-10 draft pick next June — has a Maple Leafs insignia on his chest to his honour his younger brother, who was a major booster of anything involving Brian Burke’s hockey club.

Brock Pulock died in March, 2010, when the Ford Explorer he was travelling in left the road, rolled and ended up in a ditch five kilometres south of Minnedosa, a town in southwestern Manitoba.

He was 13.

The other four people in the car, including Ryan, suffered varying degrees of bumps and bruises.

“Going to Toronto would be pretty special, because he had been a Leaf fan all his life,” Pulock, 18, said prior to the Wheat Kings WHL matchup with the Vancouver Giants at the Pacific Coliseum Wednesday. “I’m sure he’d be watching down and enjoying every minute of it

I wouldn't mind getting him. Of course I prefer MacKinnon

Would anyone have a better defense prospect pool if we got him haha?

That's an inspiring story, but, as dickish as it might be to say, I wouldn't take him unless he's BPA where we're picking. I wouldn't trade up for him either, unless it's with another pick and he'd be our 2nd pick of the first round.

Would definitely love to have him, and he's a great prospect, but if BPA is a forward, or even between him and a forward, we have to go with the forward next draft.

Can't post the entire article for copyright rules, but here is another snippet:

Toronto has a unique connection, but the Pulocks will undoubtedly be pleased with wherever he gets picked in the NHL.

It’s a good bet he goes early. Craig Button at tsn.ca had him slotted as the ninth-best prospect in his October rankings, for instance

If he's BPA when it's our pick then take him. I like what I've heard and seen about him so far.

Quite a story.

You can never have too many good defensemen, Especially right handed ones.

Great story. It's unfortunate for him that we've been loading up on d-men the last few drafts. I think we'll be taking Mackinnon/Barkov/Monahan/Lindholm over him though. That being said, that kind of character would definitely be right up Burke's alley...we could always draft him and open up room to move one of our other d-prospects for a forward (a la Schenn-JVR).

Just saying, a Rielly - Pulock pairing would look fantastic.

Wouldn't mind us drafting him if Mackinnon, Barkov and Jones are off the table.

A D core with Phaneuf, Gardiner, Rielly and Pullock would be awesome.

Pulock is an absolute stud. Outside shot of making Team Canada this year IMO.

Great story.

It would really suck to lose your brother at that age. Great that Ryan is doing so well in hockey, I'm sure it's a huge positive for him and his parents, you need things like that in the wake of a tragedy.

As for Pulock on the Leafs, he may not be the #1 centre that we need, but he's a terrific player. Unreal shot, good offensive skills in general, and pretty solid defensively. Plus he's a right handed dman, something we don't have much of. A top two pairings of Rielly/Phaneuf and Gardiner/Pulock would have the potential to be THE best defence in the league. In this purely hypothetical situation, we'd want to move some of our other young dmen (Finn, Percy, Blacker, etc.) to shore up other holes (like #1 C and #1 goalie).

That's rough. Losing his 13 year-old brother when he was only 16. Must be difficult.

Seems like a good kid. Certainly wouldn't mind having him, but I think we get one of the centers if we're drafting around that position.

I suspect we'll pick him simply because Burkie will pull a Bobby Clarke at the podium, see "Minnedosa" and think "Oooooo...American".

This will be interesting, as the Leafs usually end up drafting just outside of the top tier where the 1st line centers are taken. If we are outside of the top 5 he's at the top of my current wishlist.

An experienced Scout told me he currently has Ryan ranked at #13. But stressed he has a lot of upside.

Ryan will probably be a top 10 pick this year, if we are in the 5-7 range, can't think of any player that may be as impactful as him, especially when you consider how Rielly and Pulock potentially can impact our defence for the next decade.

It would be nice to add another youngster that wanted to be a Leaf to Finn and Biggs. Just an added bonus.

I saw that and thought of this:

I have absolutely no problem with drafting a D-man next year, so long as they're what management sees as the BPA. Barkov or Monahan are currently my guys (Center, size, 2-way game), but I would love to add even more all-star potential to our D-corps with a Jones or Pulock if that's who the best guy is when we go up. Scoring goals hasn't been our problem for ages, keeping them out of our net has been. Nothing wrong with setting up a stacked blue-line.
