IMO Burke is always agressive. It's difficult to attract top UFA's when your team isn't winning. Look at the Islanders, same deal. I see Getzlaf & Perry resigning in Anaheim. Burke would be wise to acquire a talented center (no matter what size he is). Leafs already have size on their wings, one more talented center is what they lack.

Leafs top priorities:

Solidify goaltending. I say make a move for Luongo.

Acquire top-6 talented centerman. Getzlaf, Zajac, Weiss, either of them would be a nice addition.

Sign or trade for a rugged winger who can play in top-6 role. Clowe, Clarkson, Glencross.

EDM sign Clarkson to add size and toughness in the top 6, then sign Zajac to be the 2C that this team needs and Edler say wow this is a cup team and sign. Can you say welcome cup.
Clarkson; RNH; Eberle
Hall; Zajac; Yak
Very nice top 6
Schultz; Schultz
Smid; Edler
Petry; Klefbom
I would like that dmen core.

If Edler looks at Edmonton and thinks Wow, you can have him

At least Philly/Det fans have a slim chance, but Edmonton...lol.

I don't think Iginla would leave Calgary but if he does I can see him going to Pittsburgh. Perry I could see in Boston for some reason.

Not sayin I don't like their core, but they are not 1-2 players away from contending, at least not in the next few years, imho.

Edler would then also be one of the most experienced players on the team and I don't know if that would be a good situation for him.

I want the Panthers to resign Weiss then make a move for either Semin, Perry, or Getzlaf.

I also fully expect Gaborik to be traded by the draft next summer.

can't say what Snow/Islanders will do, but i have my wish list. we will probably lose Streit and Visnovsky, as they will be looking to sign with contenders.

so we go hard after Regehr and Edler.

Regehr Edler
Hamonic MacDonald
Carkner Donovan/DeHaan

losing Streit and Vis hurt, but with Edler and Regehr, the goals against should improve drastically.

the next CBA will probably be all jacked up, so who knows who will have how much money to spend. I would think after missing a year of pay these guys will put even more emphasis on take-home money than they would have otherwise. That extra $500k/year they make playing for an empty arena is going to look mighty nice set aside as a cushion for the next lockout/strike.

Oh it could for sure, but with Edler he's still with the team that drafted him and that team has only lost to the cup champs the last 3 playoffs. I'd wager that the Canucks are a hell of a lot closer now and in the next couple of years the Edmonton.

Tries to re-sign Backstrom for 2-3 years.

Toss-up for Bouchard.

No way we'll re-sign Cullen.

I can say delusion. That isn't a Cup team. Maybe in the future it could be, but not yet. A team that finishes second to last the previous season isn't one or two pieces away from winning it all.

Nathan Horton would be my top choice BIG fan of his

Lupul center Kessel

JVR grabovoski Horton

that would be ideal to me

Rather use that money for Weiss/Zajac/Roy + Clowe.... Clowe will cost significantly less than Horton and the money spent of Horton would be used for one of the C's of the UFA class.

Lupul - Weiss/Zajac/Roy - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Clowe

Would look much better IMO
