I am perfectly happy going into the season with what we have and seeing how it plays out. I am not as concerned about this team as others. Holland should be listening but I don't want a desperate move. If anything I would like to dump a couple of vets for picks so our younger guys can get a shot. I don't think that will happen.

I think if Cleary is finally healthy we can get nice return on him, maybe that 3rd pairing stay at home pk guy. But we will have to wait until the quick pre-season because other teams aren't going to bite until he looks healthy.

^^ see i agree with you i think we will be ok but a lot of people on these boards are sayin ditch a few depth/vets for picks and more D depth i think it would make sense just trying to get an idea of what everyone is thinking for the Wings i would trade some depth forwards for D and picks i think

I wouldn't move Franzen until Brunner proves himself and, to be honest, I don't want to trade Franzen.

You don't move Franzen even if Brunner proves himself. Franzen is the only size we have in our top 6. He is not easily replaceable especially when you look at our depth.

Only Sheahan brings when Franzen has and since he is starting to look like a long shot to be a scorer we gotta keep Franzen. Even if Sheahan does pan out as a top 6er in 3 or 4 years would it be a bad thing to have two players over 6 Foot in our top 6?

I don't agree with trading Franzen at all. Especially not for a D guy. It just fixes one hole and I am not sure how big that even is, and creates a 30 goal, best powerplay and most GWG's one in our offense. I don't understand the hatred he gets, he is very productive and only makes a 3.95 cap hit. Which might be a huge thing shortly.

Cleary is interesting because he is really healthy for the first time in a while by all accounts. So I would like to see it, but you have to give something to get something and I still think other NHL GMs probably have a high opinion on Cleary. He can get us a stay at home PK d-man and the hole in the lineup wouldn't be as significant.

If that's true, why would you get rid of him?

I just think he brings back the most value if he is healthy without being a huge hole to fill in the roster. I am fine if they don't. I am not as scared of this team as some others, but if you want to make a move and get the good stay at home pk d-man than he is the guy who will probably bring it back. Cleary and a pick/mid prospect should get it done.

Cleary for Robyn Regehr. Big price-tag but gives us a Stuart-esque presence in terms of a 6'2 220lb guy that physically competes every night. AWFUL year last season ...but could be re-upped for pocket change and be a nice steadying influence for the youth movement our D-core will have these next few years.
