Pietila is looking more and more like he is going to push himself on the US under 20 team for the WJC.
Matteau and Boucher should make the US team, while Pietila is probably in a group with six or seven guys that could make or miss it. Scarlett has way too many defenseman to hop over, he might have had a chance with the NHL in session, but now a lot of guys like Murray will make the team.
Belarus is not in the main tournament, so no Gavrus...So the only guys we will have is guys on the USA team.
Murray
Murphy
Ceci
Dumba
Rielly
Hamilton
Reinhart
Harrington
Invites may include Koekkoek, Scarlett, Ouellet, and Pouliot.
Scarlett will be hard pressed to get an invite but I think it could happen. Won't make it over any of those though and so I think Severson is a stretch.
Yeah I guess you have to figure that there are however-many Canadian defensemen picked in the first and second rounds each year (and the occasional Scarlett from the later rounds), making it especially tough to get a spot on that team.

However, if there were a season, it's likely that Murray, Murphy, Rielly, Hamilton, and Reinhart would be on their respective NHL teams.
He's a longshot either way, but with no NHL season, it's almost a guarantee that he's not making it. With an NHL season, he probably could've made it if he played very well leading up to it.
Well, they didn`t lose/choke because of that either. So who knows.
RNH, MacKinnon (2012), and Seguin (2010 or 11) are a few that didn't make the team that should've. I'd say they lost last year because of leaving out explosive hard working offensive talent

They surely could`ve or should`ve taken some more, but I don`t think that was the main reason why they lost.

You'd need better arguments then that.
MacKinnon and RNH were both 17 when they were passed over. Seguin was in the NHL in 11, and again, he was 17 in 2010 I believe.
In order for those guys to play at such a young age, they'd need to get sheltered top-six minutes in order to use the offensive side of their game. Canada has a lot of players that were able to take their place, some of which were an entire year or two older and stronger. They wouldn't be doing any good in the bottom six at such a young age, the only good is their offensive ability.

Age doesn't matter. Skill does. I don't need a better argument unless you think Eric Boulton is better than Adam Henrique because he's older.

Seguin and RNH is a different story though.
Water is wet.
Look at your senior team, sometimes it simply doesn`t matter how much talent you send there.
I can`t disagree with anything you said, yet, I simply can`t say that the lack of high-end talent was their Achilles heel.
I never said that's WHY they lost.
"They've snubbed people and gone off the board before, but it's not like it has paid off recently"
What is the issue here? "Water is wet" no **** that's because my original statement was supposed to be obvious too but someone didn't get it did they?
I'm disappointed that Severson and Scarlett didn't get a chance to play for Team WHL, but all you have to do is look at the roster to understand why. That league is a defensive factory.

Yea. I would've had him there before Pulock maybe but the kid's playing really well apparently

The guys that were there in place of them were either just as good or slightly worse then them offensively. They also had a lot more experience, strength, two-way, size, etc, then those guys at 17. I'd rather pick a 19 year old that can give me a better all-around game rather than a 17 year who can give me a bit more offensive but I'd have to shelter him.

2/3rds or more of the players chosen ahead of them didn't/don't play a better all around game.
