Damn.... Those are both some of the best defensive pairings in history...Would be cool if you could Add Pronger and Al Macinnis as a 3rd option.

I'll take Pronger and Niedermayer. They were more dominant, imo.

I think Pronger is better than Stevens but Stevens-Niedermayer is a better pairing.

This. I think Pronger has a slight edge on Stevens but the pairing of Stevens and Niedermayer was, IMO, better than that of Pronger and Niedermayer.

Pronger is the best player here IMO so Pronger and Scotty for me.

Niedermayer was maybe better with Pronger seeing he hit his prime so late. Close call but still, I think that Stevens makes the difference to me.
Stevens-Niedermayer

Pronger and Niedermayer rarely, if ever played together as a pairing. I'm not sure how often Stevens and Nieds were paired together either?
Or do you mean which is the better duo?

Pronger > Stevens
Ducks Niedermayer > Devils Niedermayer
It's close, but it's an easy choice IMO.

Stevens vs Pronger is close, Pronger was better offensively but also got himself into dumb penalties more, both were obviously ridiculously physical.
However Neidermeyer was better in Anaheim than during his years with Stevens.
Also I agree that Neidermeyer never really was reguarly paired with either of them...

Pronger- Niedermayer.
They were a dominant duo against the Sens in the SC final in 06-07.

Pronger and Scotty were not a pairing very often at even strength.
This was one of the reasons the Ducks defense was so good. They had 3 guys who could play 30 minutes a game in every situation.
How many teams even had 2 defenders that averaged over 25 minutes a game in the playoffs in 2007?

I think people forget how wonderful of a two way talent Stevens was. Before NJ's prime years he was a dominant offensive defenseman, and in NJ he was arguably the best shutdown defenseman in the league. He was basically a Shea Weber like talent. I don't think Pronger>Stevens is as easy a call as people make it out to be, although an argument for it is fair. Myself, i'd take Stevens.

Almost never. Stevens was usually paired with Rafalski from 2000 onward, and Niedermayer was paired with Daneyko for most of the late 90s, and later was paired with Colin White often.
However, with Stevens and Niedermayer, the Devils had two #1 defencemen, and won three Cups that way. I'm inclined to pick them.

what a terrible argument
Andre Roy - 1 Stanley Cup
Eric Lindros - 0 Stanley Cups
therefore, Roy > Lindros
