Peter Mueller vs. James Sheppard

Two 24-year old centers drafted 8th and 9th in 2006. Both were expected to make some noise and both flamed out to different degrees (due in part to poor development, health, and desire)...and now they're both entering their prime.

So who had the higher upside (were they supposed to be dominant power forwards, etc.) coming out of junior?

And who's more likely to approach his upside?

Who cares? Well, you did click on this thread...

Mueller has bigger upside but he'll never reach his full potential and become the player he was projected to be due to his injuries.

I'll go with the guy who actually put up some solid seasons and showed himself to be a useful player (for the most part) when healthy. I don't know if Mueller will ever be as good as he was before, but he's sure as hell more of a safe bet than James Sheppard. Sheppard's proven nothing besides that Wild fans really, really hate him.

The Q was a weak league when Sheppard was drafted.

Mueller, no question. I wouldn't be surprised if he rebounds as soon as next season starts. He has the NHL shot to make some noise, it was more a question of his conditioning, foot speed and overall strength coming off nearly two years of no hockey, no training, etc.

I'm still torn over the fact Blake nearly ended his career, the same guy I semi-idolized while getting into hockey and who is now involved in player discipline.

Mueller for both. Shame that injuries derailed his career because he was developing into a pretty good player.

I really hope Mueller can get healthy and rebound the way Flash did after leaving us, but I've got very low expectations. His concussions have left him so far out of game shape and his career could be over at any moment.

A) Mueller's not a powerforward
B) Sheppard sucks

Eh, I'm Sharks fan and relatively new to hockey. I was hoping that Sheppard's upside, back when scouts were ranking prospects, was maybe considered higher than Mueller's so that I can have some hope. I've seen Mueller when he's on and he is a pretty exciting player and I was hoping that maybe Sheppard has higher upside on paper.

In terms of forwards picked earlier, there was:
Jordan Staal
Jonathan Toews
Nicklas Backstrom
Phil Kessel

But these guys were picked later in the round:
Bryan Little
Michael Grabner
Chris Stewart
Claude Giroux
Patrik Berglund

Is that a weak forward class?

He is talking about the QMJHL, a minor hockey league where Sheppard got drafted out of. The 06 draft isn't weak at all. You picked the wrong time to be a fan of the NHL.
