The keeper league here has been pretty successful the past few seasons, but with that said I get the impression that the longer this lockout goes on the higher chance we have for a huge amount of GM turnover. So that leads the question, do we reboot, starting from scratch, or do we keep on keeping on just tweak the rules on prospect rights and number of keeper players as well as trying to figure out how to make a more competitive points system?
I think we should use the rosters that were autodrafted a few weeks ago, because I have Sidney Crosby, Brad Richards, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Gabriel Landeskog, Alex Burrows, Jarome Iginla, Nail Yakupov, Erik Karlsson, Duncan Keith, Tyler Myers, Paul Stastny, Jonathan Huberdeau, Marian Gaborik, Mikko Koivu, Pekka Rinne and Jimmy Howard.
There isn't. It's basically two options. We reboot (IE: start everything from scratch) or we tweak what we have going now. Punctuation's never been my strong point.
id prefer the idea of keeping only 5 or 6. thats a long time of roster development to just toss away. newbies inherit a roster that has to have 5/6 worth keeping plus the biggest draft we've had since the first.
I have an idea that doesn't have keepers whatsoever based on the nature of it.
Run two leagues to start, both with an equal number of teams.
After the first year, create two new leagues. In one league, throw the top half of teams based on performance from each initial league. Put the rest in the second league.
Run through the season and do a relegation/promotion style. Say...the top two teams from the lower league replace the bottom two teams from the higher league in the following year.
Repeat each year.
The main reason behind this is because I see a lot of extra people who seem interested (myself included) beyond just those already in the HF league. Doing this would probably keep the interest up and prevent people from ignoring their teams.
Yes/No? Should we just keep two separate leagues with keepers?

You'll end up with two of the same player in each league. You'd have to draft all together, THEN separate into leagues. Otherwise, each player will be on two teams, which have the potential to be in the same league.

I guess I wasn't too clear on that. You'd re-draft every year, and have no keepers whatsoever. So after the relegation/promotion concluded the previous year, there would be a new draft among the players in each league.
It's not the rosters of the best teams in the worst league that are being promoted, but rather the fantasy GM that's being promoted.
That's the only annoying part...re-drafting for each year.
I think we've got a pretty good thing going so I'm struggling with the concept of a lot of change. Changing the league we had to a keeper league of 5/6 with some minor scoring tweaks would be a HUGE change to what we've been doing. I was ok with it so we could help some of the lower end teams, some of which had inherited poor clubs. I just think what we had generally works. Before we start going down these paths shouldn't we confirm who's in or out prior to re arranging everything? We may not need to do all this. I guess if we had to totally reboot from scratch due to half the league folding I wouldn't stand in the way but I'd be annoyed after years of working my team and all the trades I did trying to set myself up for the future. If we are talking all this just to replace one or two people can't we do that without all this fuss? Lets figure how many we need to replace first. Obviously there's some interest for new gms.
Yeah that's one of the things I was hoping this thread would generate a bit more discussion from, some of the GMs that may or may not be returning. Obviously I know us two, Dale, Geehaad, and La Hurricanista are onboard. And Vagrant's almost certainly back as well, so that's a solid core of the returning GMs.
Actually looking at the yahoo site, looks like EVERYONE's back with a couple that didn't register yet. I know the draft has supposedly taken place already but that's easy enough to fix.
I'm OK with lessening the amount of keepers balanced with tweaking the keeper rule on prospects (say til say age 23 or by 4 seasons played, whichever comes first). And tweaking the scoring so that a team that a team that squeaks by one category doesn't get the same credit as another team outright dominating another. So going back to points based, just a more balanced version of it.
