suggestions for places to go for the weekend to get away from it all?
not too far that travel takes up the whole weekend, but far enough that we don't see hurricane sandy destruction (ie not AC)
somewhere warm-ish (ie. not canada)
somewhere not too crazy (ie not vegas)
I've personally always wanted to go to Nashville. Montgomery and Atlanta are both very nice cities as well (may be a little farther than you want to travel though)

Nashville - been there done that got the tshirt (never going back to tennessee ever*. long story)
I have a *****y "friend" in Atlanta that i'd be required to see if we went there, and even with offering free plane tickets to the wedding she still didn't come, so f her.
Montgomery? never considered that one. i'll look into it.
* - except maybe to get fried chicken from Gus's, some ribs from the Bar-B-Q Shop, and banana cream pie from McEwen's and get the hell out.

Orlando's not a bad choice.
They have Seaworld, Disney, and Putt-Putt Golfing.
Disney is my favorite place ever, but if i'm going, i'll want more than a weekend, and time to plan to find deals.
I (by an amazing stroke of luck) was down there during Sandy. Left Saturday before, arrived Saturday after.
I went there for Universal. Did a night of Halloween Horror Nights and 3 days at Universal (2 at Islands of Adventure, 1 at regular park) then spent 2 nights exploring (bar crawling) City Walk. Was a lot of fun.
One of my best friends had just gotten married and I spent a day with him and his new wife there. They were staying just outside Disney and said they loved it there too.

I imagine hell to be very much like driving in Orlando, just with more lava and smoke.
Well I had a good time being there for only a week, and you can get cheap flights there. So for a 1 week escape, not that bad.
Also, I was curious if anyone would pick up on the reference when I suggested Orlando. Although it's honestly a long shot.
Also I'm pretty sure work is hell bent on preventing me from accomplishing work today. Every time I go to a database that I need info from, it's down or crashes.

I'd second Orlando, tons to for a weekend.
If you had 3 or 4 days, I'd say fly to Miami, rent a car and go to the Keys.
It's true everywhere you go. London is a terrific place to go sight-seeing and whatnot, but everyone who lives there will tell you what a massive ****hole it is.

St. Louis?
St. Louis and Nashville are two of my favorite US cities to just kick back and relax in (but you're lived Tennessee, so scratch Nashville )
Or New Orleans if you're looking for something a bit more lively?
yes, with the giant chocolate chip cookies hurling around
you may be joking, i had my eyes shut the whole time.
i hate roller coasters, heights, etc, but the gf dragged me on a lot of them. as the space mountain ride started (while waiting on line i had drained like a 44 oz pepsi- not smart) i leaned over and said 'i ****ing hate you for this, ill never forgive you, better find a new boyfriend and a ride home you ****eating ***nugget.' the ride attendant looked shocked.
of course i apologized once we were safely on the ground
