2013-14 season, I'd say.

I don't have any hope in this pathetic hockey league for this year.

my jan 1 prediction is my own delusions. that aside...say we do a july (or later) end to all of this - has anyone come up with (or seen elsewhere) anything re how a prolonged lock-out would affect the draft?

re the 04/05 lockout - the draft ended up being late July - and only after they'd "finished the lockout" (i.e. agreed on the CBA). i assume it's the same this time around ... i don't see how the nhl could, legally, run a draft absent the cba.

Starting to think a deal gets done so that there is a 2013-14 season. I don't see hockey happening this year. Pathetic.

o/t - bubba, i noticed that Stalberg hasn't committed himself to professional play while the lockout is ongoing while kruger has been a dedicated ice hog. how does that make you feel about each player?

Thought Stalberg plays in Sweden for Frölunda? Edit: Checked it and yes, he plays there

what should I think? Nothing different. Stalberg is a fringe Top6 player that will now be a UFA and we may get nothing for him.

Talking about this (assuming there will be no season this year), we don't know if his season was a fluke or not. Not good to give him 3+ million next year as UFA. Others probalbly will give him this.
We may now lose him for nothing... instead of trading him this past offseason

There is no hockey this year period.

Come summer time next year the NHLPA will start to realize as a deal still hasn't been signed that Fehr has no care about them or the game and is pro-longing this soley to stroke his ego.

They remove him and hire an ex-player with knowledge of the players, game, and the owners and how the system works and who has the best interest of the game and the players at heart, and finally get a deal signed then.

Why is February an option? The NHL isn't going to have a 30 game regular season. Or even a mega-condensed 45 game season. No hockey until next year boys. As soon as i saw Fehr was involved i knew it would be bad. Not this bad, but i definitely knew some games would be lost.

I think it's became evident when the talks from last week stopped that the entire season is lost. Sad, but true.

They started in 1995 on Jan 20th. Obviously, that isn't February but it's pretty close. Something like that with a 48 game schedule is still plausible. Month and a half to get something done.

So yeah, the only hope is that the league waits it out another month before they make a final offer the PA really can't refuse by Dec 15th, and they get this done in that 2 weeks.

Not sure, we have the full season and just left it with them. Call them and ask, there should be someone there.

I don't know why they would start before the NCAAFB championship game at this point. I can see a push for the end of January starting after the BCS games. I say Feb 1st or the next year.

I don't think they're very worried about a sport that takes over a month off before having about 5 days worth of meaningful, which is arguable, games.

So you're saying they would rather push it to Feb. 1st to avoid competing with BCS games yet the Super Bowl is Feb. 3rd.

I was referring to the timeline more than any one particular sport or league. Holidays, bowl games, NFL playoffs, offer plenty of reasons to put off starting the season now that the WC is off the table. The NHL still loses to the NBA in most U.S. markets and combined with 4 nights of NFL football and plenty of college games, I can't see a real motivation to get something done and started before mid January. The league likes a few days off at Christmas too. That's all I meant. The SB is just one day of primetime.

Sometime in the summer of 2013, can't specify when.

Regardless, won't impact the draft.

It better not start in February. The season would be so short that playoff standings would be a joke. Not near enough time to get an honest picture of where every team actually stands.

When Bettman/owners budge on player contracting rights, we'll have a season.

^ yeah, that pretty much goes into my line of thinking. They'll wait 2 more paydays, and make that offer a month from today.

Or they won't
