Funny...

So I'm setting up this interview for an analyst position, and the guy wants me to also interview for a Cognos software implementation position as well. He thinks it'd be a good fit given my finance and tech background.

Oddly enough, that's the exact two positions my company is talking about offering me next year...a higher level analyst position and an Oracle software implementation position.

Sure would be nice to work five miles from home though, with better pay and benefits and a larger company with more advancement opportunities.

I keep my eye on the four or five places within five miles of home every week. Hell, I'd take a pay cut to work that close...

I am going to hell...

The conflict in Israel and the Gaza Strip isn't getting a whole lot of US media coverage. Simply put, Hamas has fired over 2000 rockets, rpgs, and mortars into the Israeli settlements. Hamas has also been rigging cars with explosives and rolling them downhill into the settlements. Israel, in turn, has bombed Hamas locations with much more devastating effects. They got the Hamas commander while he was in a car.

It is a bad situation...

Yet...

This morning I clicked on the trending topic #HamasBumperSticker.

This one made me laugh my insensitive ass off, because it is has double meaning and is just downright offensive in both...

"#Boom"

I've lost count of how many times some attack by one side of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was supposed to trigger WWIII and didn't. I'm guessing most Americans just see it as yet another in a string of attacks that will never cease, only get more or less intense at times.

You're going to hell for linking to that awful excuse of a game in the BOH thread. I had forgotten about sitting through that (9 SOG in regulation) disaster.

Curse you....

(BTW, nice projected lineup for that game in the preview, both Barker and Kalus expected to suit up)

Yeah, leg day @ gym. Walking the stairs in my house feels something around torture/accomplishment. Insanely motivated to hit the ice this winter.

Also, Cognos seems to be trending around, our company is also looking for BI analysts. Already hired a concept owner for BI team, still looking for a trainee & specialist.

Specialists in BI Analytics packages have the potential for stable and high paying jobs, although, the ceiling isn’t as high as other areas.

Cognos is a popular choice, as well as Hyperion, SSRS and even some of the home grown tools. The place I work is a .Net shop that dropped a third party tool called “Dundas” on top of SSRS. Sad thing was, I was the only one here that argued against it, because the tools that Microsoft built in to SSRS2010 and SharePoint 2010 made Dundas obsolete.

If you are able to properly articulate how it is a good thing to utilize specifically targeted KPI tables to drive your BI metrics, you will have a leg up on 90% of the people that I have interviewed. In fact, one supposed “BI Expert” looked at me and asked; “What does the acronym, KPI, stand for?”

My response; First, it is not an acronym, it is an abbreviation.
Him: What’s the difference?
Me: I’ll get to that later.
Him: …
Me: Second, if you do not know what a KPI is, maybe you should consider leaving now and stop wasting my time.
Him: That isn't fair<interrupted>
Me: What is not fair is that my time has been wasted by someone that has obviously padded their resume to the point where the lies are easily detectable with simple and straightfoward questions.

Yeah I know nothing about that stuff. Well I've built my own databases in Access and manipulated the information every way possible in Excel, and I do have ERP software experience with Oracle and Lawson, I haven't gotten into the hardcore analytics and reporting as I've never been exposed to it. I'm sure I would do fine with the opportunity.

I didn't know that about acronyms and abbreviations, but I honestly would have walked out of the interview if a hiring manager came at me like you described Life is too short to deal with that crap every day.

I am not the hiring manager, though... In any interview situations here, I'm the "bad cop". Although, this is probably the most aggressive example from any interviews I have done.

The guy had already burned the bridge with me, in particular. I had asked him a pointed question in the first minute and he admitted to taking advantage of a particular benefit of a previous employer and then leaving immediately after. That benefit is intended to drive internal loyalty, not to be taken advantage of and then bail. It is, literally, over the course of three years, a $60k investment into the person. Also, the fact that he didn't pick up on how I would know that and laughed about how he "took" the previous employer... Yeah, that wasn't going to end well.

I had a leg day too. First time ever, feeling good about it. Following my buddy's 3 times a week schedule.

I'm doing 4/week schedule. Shoulders/triceps monday, back tuesday, legs thursday and chest/biceps friday. Works okay, although kinda wondering if I should change back to upper/lower schedule and continue going 4 days per week.

Leg press is quite awesome for rehabbin slightly shredded knee. Then you just forget that when you go 200kg+ ->

I've been doing some kettlebell work on MWF. Five sets of as many reps as I can do, basically lifting a 40# weight up quickly and with good form. Hits all the lower body hockey muscles but also a lot of cardio. I usually do 100-150 reps in under 10 minutes with some upper body rows thrown in and then I'm spent.

I'd say the upper half of Minnesota mostly does, yeah. Then you have some individual people all over the southern half that does.
