IMHO, goaltending is 25% attributes and 75% team play. 78 ovr Markstrom has the best GAA in the league, Bernier is an 81 ovr and has a top 5 GAA. Ward, Luongo, Rinne, Quick, and Lundqvist are nowhere to be seen.

I think if you play good defense, you can sacrifice having a franchise goaltender for a lesser, cheaper goalie. Hence why I traded Lehtonen.

RNH has already been traded. He's not a franchise player anymore. Malkin, Parise, and Weber aren't on that list either.

What was the package for Malkin? I'm still surprised that he was moved.

Penguins: Roy, Eriksson, 2013 1st
Stars: Malkin, Sutter

COMPLETELY robbed by Stars.
I wouldn't have done that for Malkin alone.. but then again.. I am a Penguins homer.

and then:

Pittsburgh: Heatley, Christensen, 2014 4th
Minnesota: Morrow, Martin, 2013 1st

oof.

I am sorry Pittsburgh, but these are some awful trades, I hate to say it.
Martin for Heatly.. I'll give you that but
Morrow + 1st for Christensen and a 4th? what were you thinking there?

In my defense, I'd be equally as dangerous with Roy and Eriksson. In fact, I still think my team played better with those 2 than with Malkin... but Malkin is a beast and a franchise player which Dallas needed.

ummm i'm sorry but how are those terrible trades? Roy+Eriksson > Malkin alone, and sutter>1st round pick (which at the time was projected to be a top 10 pick). Also I had Letang, Despres, Morrow, Pouliot, and Maatta as young D-men for the future. That means one of them was expendable and Morrow was the guy that was the most appealing to MIN. Martin was a pure salary dump, and the 1st was a mid round 1st anyways. I don't mean to sound offensive or anything, i'm just defending my trades.

To

Martin Havlat

To

Sean Couturier
1st rounder

Apologize to the Couturier family for another change of scenery Minnesota has entered a win now mode and felt that by bringing in Martin Havlat it gives them a great chance at hoisting lord stanley.

San Jose confirms.

Sharks have touched base with Sean and family. He is a huge part of the future here in San Jose and will be going nowhere in the next decade. We have had an obvious gap up the middle since the Couture trade and now with Sean we feel we have addressed that need quite well.

Horrendous trade, unless you mean the 1st is going to Minny.

Yeah I really thought the offer I sent you was good for both sides, oh well life goes on.

Really thought is was pretty good for both of us. 78 ovr C for a 85 ovr RW.

Couturier will probably reach 85ish but by that time my 1-2 center punch will be a pair of 85+ and when Havlat retires in 3-4 years Etem will be my top line RW anyway.

Prospect pool is the leagues deepest in Minny (sorry Columbus I said it).

I think it's a good deal from both sides. Havlat is an absolute beast with 2+ years left before he starts to decline, 92 speed and a great shot, but his durability brings down his value a bit.

Couturier is a great 2nd line C prospect but he's never going to develop great speed or elite offensive stats.
