The Cleary model fits, I think. When Cleary was an above average skater, he was a useful player. Like Cleary, Ferraro has goal scoring chops, but not much playmaking ability.
What remains to be seen is if Ferraro can play in the tough areas of the ice like Cleary did. And it cost Cleary, too.
Ferraro needs to put on some weight but he does play a physical style and guts it out in the corners. Cleary is about the same height as Ferraro but is thicker. Ferraros speed might make up for the size difference though.
Hopefully a little bit of his dad rubbed off on Ferraro. Ray was a pretty fearless player in the dirty spots of the ice for a small guy. If he can match the intensity and fearlessness of his father to pair with his own natural speed and skills he'll have a lot of success.
Read a few snippets that mentioned that Callahan has some issues with taking bad (selfish?) penalties and has been getting benched for it. At this point he's not looking like an NHL player in the near future, if at all. Skill not quite great, skating not quite great, discipline not quite there.....not a great combination that screams NHL ready soon.

At the risk of really upsetting Newfy, you can also add fighting not quite great. He had been pretty disappointing this year.

Yeah he had a dumb penalty to start a fight this year and then got benched. The griffs went on a run after that and he hasnt got back in the line up. His skill isnt great, but his skating is actually pretty good. Hes a good forechecker, and he had no discipline problems last year just had one bad one this year at a really unfortunate time. But lets not pretend he was going to be a guy on the fast track to the NHL either, its only his second pro season

Has only fought once this year but it doesnt upset me. He played a good game last game on a line with Aubry and Grant. They were holding it in the offensive zone on the cycle the entire game.

How were the lines at last game? Was that Grant-Aubry-Callahan a 4th line?
Is Arndersson, Sheahan, Ferraro the 1-2-3 center core?
Not only that but Smith took a skill guy with him. Team really lagged over the second half the period. He throws a huge hit (bad pinch) and then fights the guy after the 2 on 1 falls apart. There leading rookie scorer. The Cleveland (you can call them Lake Erie whatever) tough guy was taking liberties I think that was a part of the response. Leadership scrap.
I do think it is time we can start to let the Mrazek hype train get going without being worried. Kid looks flat out awesome at the AHL level now. Paetsch was doing play by play while he is out and talked about how much confidence the dressing room has in him. He has that it factor and it is showing at the pro level and a good pro level. McCollum was actually good in his last game after a tough luck start. I think this team has playoff goaltending, don't know about the lineup if the NHL starts. But this is a very dangerous team as is right now, one of the better teams in the AHL. Not just because of the streak, but the talent level with the goalies finally being right is pretty special.
Mrazek having his roughest period as pro, but still really like the kid. Fourth goal should have been an interference penalty, Smith was taken out on the faceoff.
