Does Anybody Here Remember Vera Lynn? (CBA & Lockout Discussion) XXVIII
Aaron Ward @aaronward_nhl
Sources have indicated Bettman floated the idea to NHLPA that both sides take 2 week moratorium. This has NOT been discussed further.
Just can the thing already. They've given fans 5 rounds to the chest, put one in the head and end the suffering
I wonder if the NHL fans could unite just to boycott 1 sponsor? If 1 sponsor was targeted, maybe that 1 sponsor would drop its investment in the NHL. And correspondingly, perhaps other sponsors would reconsider their relationship with the NHL.
Vancouver sticks to its guns with player contracts and spends within its means, that could be applied to any budget.
They invented the cap busting contract? MOD
Sticks to its guns? They don't have any other choice, they are at the cap. That forces them to 'spend within their means'. Luongo's contract is about as cap busting as it comes though and puts your theory that they are responsible to shame. They are just as bad as anyone else, and really I don't blame them. The entire system is set up to push player prices upwards. Anyone saying that owners should just 'spend within their means' doesn't have a grasp of the reality of the situation when you are running a team.
MOD Under the current system, what do you think would happen if they moved teams like Phoenix & Florida to good markets? Their revenues would explode, driving up NHL revenues, driving up the cap AND the floor, costing every team through higher player costs.
Don't know why I bother this. Must be in a confrontational mood today....
The number of money losing teams greatly exceeds the small, available supply of "good markets."

One sponsor? Why?
Why not the first week of the season, why not the first two? Hurt those, who deserve it.
Does anybody think its possible that GB said that so it could go public and distract the media and do sort of a behind-the-scenes negotiating where media or public would have no idea they meet? Or that is just wishful thinking right?

Wishful thinking. Sorry, I don't see them meeting until next week, tops.
So we are heading into December then. On one hand that is bad considering it's getting close to game over. But the pa thought it would take y this long anyway before they offered something different so...

I don't know why but when I go to click on "quote" nothing comes up in the reply boc. Anyway is Samsung a sponsor of the NHL? I was wondering because last night I tried getting on NHL GameCenter from my Samsung Smart TV and I got the message that said "Samsung is no longer carrying NHL GameCenter Live for Samsung smart apps". Is this the effects of a lockout or totally unrelated?

No, it's not. The Canucks do it. They let Ehrhoff walk, sign mid level FA's to reasonable deals, make drafting and developing important, make their team attractive by running it in a professional manner, bringing in good people, treat people well and take advantage of RFA rules. It can be done. It's not collusion, it's good business practice, what you usually have to do to make money in the business world.
Yes, however this is a decision exclusively made by Vancouver. If every team were to adopt this structure, the league would come over fire for collusion. Players intentionally take a paycut to stay but they are not forced.
Once again, I'm amazed at how hung up on NHL hockey people are. If it's there, I'll watch the Leafs on TV and a few other games and I'll go to a few Leaf games in person, but if it's not there, I'll do something else. To me, it's no different than my favorite TV series skipping a year or maybe doing a short season starting later than usual. Of course, maybe the people moaning and groaning about the NHL lockout would be moaning and groaining about their favorite TV show not being on too.
