Calling him the devil, because the players have said they wanted to play, because the owners have been the one moving on their offers, the players haven't really negotiated, etc.
They also claim their firmly behind him. I dont like him, as i said I thought he was a poor choice, you dont have to convince people of your stance, but the players do say they support him.
My point was if fehr suggested two weeks off, hed be looked at critically and poorly in this area, but bettman does it, and its great.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but if I'm not mistaken, this is the first time an actual shot has been taken at Fehr and the PA committee that's come straight from the horse's mouth and not from some 'NHL sources'. Why didn't the league make comments like this much earlier? I've always been pessimistic about this process and about having any season at all but it's possible that these direct comments are gloves off for the league. Maybe they've already decided that if need be, a season will be lost and they're now drawing the line in the sand. It seems like they're saying that they see Fehr's strategy and they've had about enough playing games. Again, I've been pessimistic about the whole thing and while I don't necessarily think his comments will prevent negotiations in the near future or even a deal happening (though I think unlikely), I do think these comments serve to add to the recent actions by the league to say that we're not making any first moves any more.
Gary is taking his ball and going home, he doesn't want to play with Fehr anymore.
So far, the pressure on Fehr and the NHLPA has come from the NHL / owners. The NHL has probably decided that unless Fehr feels some pressure from the players to make a deal, they won't get any further in negotiations. The delay is simply to create some uncertainty and financial costs to the players. If the players stay resolved and don't mind losing more paycheques and perhaps the season, then Fehr will continue to keep a hard line, and if the owners remain solid the season is toast.

If Bettman suggests a 2 wk break and the PA agrees to it, then how could the NHL just be to blame?
Plus, maybe it's just me but 2 weeks not talking will probably get them to the same point 2 weeks talking has anyway.

This is getting past the point of ridiculous. I know some will find a way of complimenting the negotiating tactics of one or both sides, but all I see is a bunch of greedy, delusional children who can't see the forest through the trees.
We're basically receiving the same line from both sides now: well, we want to negotiate, but it's clear the other side has no interest in negotiating.
One side, and as I see it, it should be the NHLPA, should counter with a more reasonable offer and hopefully they can negotiate off that.
What's going on right now is a travesty and both sides have already lost far more than they seem competent enough to understand.

Doesn't matter who suggests it. If the league wanted, they could have internally agreed to not contact the PA for two weeks and refuse any meetings. By seeking an official break between the two parties, they are putting some onus on the PA because if the breaks do happen, it's not because the owners forced it, it's because the PA agreed to it.

Yes, but my point is their extreme one sided viewpoints in favor of whatever bettman does, and extreme criticism whenever fehr uses "bargaining tactics"
All Im saying is I dont see how anyone can herald this as a great psychological bargaining tactic by bettman. Taking two weeks off.

Bettman OFFERED a two-week moratorium. Both sides have to agree to it.
The owners are using this to test how badly the players want to deal. If they're comfortable sitting it out, they'll agree to the break. If they're not, they won't.
