Will the lockout continue into next season?

TSN has this poll up, so thought I'd ask here

I've been hoping it would end, however haven't truly expected it to end anytime soon. However I doubt it'll continue into next season. At some point the players will get pissed off about not getting paid (remember only 1/3rd or so are playing elsewhere - well maybe a tad more), and they will demand that Fehr get a deal done. Just like last time.

****** that we'll have to miss most (if not all of this season), but we can't control it...

No, I don't think both sides are dumb enough to lose a whole season never mind extend this mess into next season. If this extends into next season, then wow, I won't know what to say. You have to be all sorts of incompetent to let any lockout to go into a second season. That would be fatal for this league.

I think they'll salvage a season and we'll have a Stanley Cup awarded in June. If this lockout extends into the 2013-14 league calendar, it's probably safe to declare an impasse and lift the lockout via the courts. Failing that... well, get ready for the Detroit Griffins, the Philadelphia Phantoms (again), and the Buffalo Americans, among others.

I would have significant concerns about the league's viability long term if that were to happen.

This season is all but cancelled. The NHL might as well fold up the teams like Columbus because they wont recover.

I voted yes, but it's conditional on Fehr remaining the head of the PA.

In the unlikely event that he's removed, the season can be salvaged.

I think there will be a season (and it could come sooner than it may seem). If this kills a season the same thing that happened to Goodenow will happen to Fehr.

By into next year, you mean as in miss time next season as well? I wouldn't go that far yet but right now I don't have any hope in games this year, unless some outside party can somehow force both parties to accept binding arbitration. But that probably won't happen till the summer when they've pouted for months.

Fifteen-year olds could have done a better job negotiating than these hacks, at least they would have tried to negotiate

This season will be cancelled.
By summer time the players mutiny will begin.
Fehr fired/resigns... nhlpa will settle for less than what's been offered the past week or so.

Just like last time...

I hope the NHL dies, I'm hoping for empty arenas in huge markets, I hope Bettman, Daly, Fehr, Crosby and Toews and all the players legacy is destroying this joke of a league. I hate everybody, including myself for caring so much for a bunch of greedy millionaires.

After the 2004-05 decacle, I thought both parties would be smart enough to pull off a win-win deal at the right time...boy was I naive

I think the players are gonna ride out, Fehr. By his thought process they'll need to lose two seasons too win.

Only one thing, everyone really lost anyways.

Mutiny? huh...you do know they vote right? Fehr has zero influence apart from being the voice of the players and providing leadership.

Declare a impasse and have the courts mandate a contract...sorry but this is not how this works...and for good reason...imagine the crap life you would have if things actually worked like that.

Personally I said it before, I hope this drags as long as possible and the league collapses...I like hockey, not the NHL. We will be all better of with some rejuvenation of the sport.

Well..... I don't think so..... but I also didn't think that we'd lose any regular season games, or a handful tops, about a half year ago, so what the **** do I know?

As bleak as it may seem now, it will not happen. Only chance it happens is if Fehr goes after the cap and NHL excludes guaranteed contracts.

They would go with replacement players before continuing the lockout into next season, they were about to do it after the 04-05 cancellation until they reached an agreement.

But to answer the question, no. I still think we have a season THIS year. Not really confident in that, but I still can't fathom both sides being that stupid without one side cringing and blinking to get it done to start in Dec. Exactly like the NBA lockout.

It was my initial prediction that the lockout would extend into next season, and I have not yet seen enough to make me change my mind on that.

I didn't think so until very recently, but watching this unfold I am starting to think yes and since we aren't going with maybe, then I have to say yes. I think December 1st 2013 is really when the Owners get super worried. That should really scare the players, before then I think it will uspet them, make some angry. But not actually worry them.

Given the fact that they've had years to negotiate this, particularly last season and this summer, and we just keep seeing games cancelled, whay start being optomistic now?

I said when it started it goes until late 2013, a few months into next season as well.

Eventually things get hammered out due to the players wanting to be in game shape for the Olympics, and lots of people sick of missing salary.
