He missed ONE field goal, early in the third quarter, and the Dolphins D allowed Arizona to tie it up to force OT, and Tannehill also threw a pick in OT that gifted a win to Arizona. That's not a kicker costing a team a game.
And if he made that field goal, this is a moot point.
He gets paid to make field goals, plain and simple.
He missed against the Cardinals, plain and simple.
He missed against the Jets, plain and simple.
What more do you want from a kicker? This hasn't been the Dolphins best game offensively, sure, but they have been able to move the ball with a rookie QB and a rejected WR core most of this season.
I've already conceded the Jets game. He did lose that one for Miami in my eyes. I watched that game.
The FG he missed vs. the Cardinals is a 51-yarder early in the third quarter. After that, here is what Miami did in that game:
Punt
TO on downs
Punt
Fumble
80-yard TD pass
Fumbled in AZ territory to set up AZ's tying TD drive.
Punt in overtime
INT in overtime that led to AZ's GWFG
Now I want you to explain to me how one missed FG by Dan Carpenter of over 50 yards is the prime reason why Miami lost the Arizona game. When the Miami offense AND defense did nothing to help the cause. Explain it. I'm all ears. I watched that game in full and know what I watched, and it wasn't Dan Carpenter blowing it.
I also want you to explain to me how in this horrendous game Miami is playing on offense that one missed field goal of 50 yards by Dan Carpenter is the reason the Dolphins will lose. I watched this game too. The onus isn't on Carpenter. The offense SUCKED. One TD drive, in a game where Buffalo couldn't do anything itself but kick FGs? And that's Carpenter's fault because he got put in a long FG situation because his offense sucks?
I also look at the list of 50-yard FGs attempted by kickers this year. Many good kickers in this league that have missed multiple 50-yards would be snatched up in a heartbeat if they were cut by their current teams. Mason Crosby, Adam Vinatieri, David Akers. Heck, Sebastian Janikowski -- Superleg himself -- has missed one over 50-yards.
Your hatred and illogical blame of Carpenter is incredible. I've seen bad kickers who deserved to be cut. Carpenter isn't the person to point a finger of blame on. What next, he lost the Tennessee game, too? He lost the Houston game? Dan Carpenter is the only reason that Miami isn't undefeated?

Give me a break!
He makes the FG he gets paid to make, it's a moot point! Geesus, what's so hard to understand about that?!!?

That you're expecting someone to be super perfect and never miss a FG, because that's what they're paid to do, in your words. Again, 1998, Gary Anderson kicked the ONLY perfect season in NFL history. Think of all the kickers out there, and he's it? The only one?
Now think about what you are doing by wrongfully putting blame on Carpenter. Unless you can put up a truly logical argument as to why Carpenter is to blame for the Dolphins trouble, other than the heinous idea that everyone has to be perfect, then you have no argument whatsoever, because every time I present you with information to explain why Miami struggles, your response is "He gets paid to make those kicks" because you have nothing else to say about the fact your team has issues.
Are they a better than expected team who is having a tough couple of games
Are they a bad team who played above expectation and is now free falling back to where they should be
I'm gonna go with the free fall one.
The Bills don't suck as of late. Last 4 weeks they have been competitive. Competitive against playoff caliber teams like Houston and New England. In other words, the Bills play good enough to lose.
I think it will be a close game in terms of result but horrible football to watch (like the KC-PIT game).
Didn't watch the game since i had hockey tonight. Was my assesment of the game (quoted above) correct?
The league-wide FG percentage last year at 50+ yards was 55.9%.
Which is why I set the cap at 50 yards. Anything over is a significantly tougher. But an NFL kicker should be making 45-50 semi regularly (75ish percent).

Carpenter is 5-7 from 40-49 yards (closest split I can find without manually compiling it which I don't feel like doing). He makes his next one in that range and he is 75% exactly.
