Dumba looked great; very physical, made great passes, quick to get back in position, contributed to a waved-off goal.

Griffin Reinhart impressed me with his defensive play.

The PBP guy wouldn't stop raving about Reilly whose play didn't seem too special in my eyes. He made a lot of defensive mistakes and tried to do too much offensively, which led to turnovers.

Murray was okay. Had a few turnovers that were head-scratchers.

Edit: Brossoit (rights held by Calgary), WHL's goalie was also impressive.

Who looked like the best D-man overall? Sounds like Dumba. Didn't see the game.

In the prospects thread most people were raving about Murray and Rielly, everyone seemed to think Dumba was solid though.

I made an effort to watch Dumba the entire game. That's probably why I had the most compliments for him.

Purely based on that one game, I would choose Reinhart for his defensive play. However, I could be noticing this because Reinhart was Dumba's defensive partner.

Recorded the 2nd period on. Will try to watch tonight. Saw him take a couple shifts and he looked fairly explosive. So fast, good puck skills, might have a tendency to run around a bit in his end?

Can a Bussieres explosion be 2 points in a night?

Bussi is heating up.

Maybe he can put up some Shep Q numbers!

He is heating up quite a bit. Started fairly slow...less than 0.5 PPG but has been over 1.5 PPG since:

First 9gp: 2-3=5 -4
Last 11gp: 7-10=17 +15

Maybe he'll prove some of us wrong...

Dumba is playing poorly in the game tonight.

I'm not sure why but he just gives people lanes to drive the net.

If anyone is recording these and wants to post a video last night he let a guy drive the net with about 3 minutes left in the 3rd.
Tonight he skated away from the guy with the puck at about 17min mark of the 2nd.

Overall yesterday he was better than I expected, tonight (only started watching in the 2nd) hes been pretty poor.

We have been blessed with prospects that play such a calm game like Brodin, Granlund, even Larsson and Coyle are quite calm.

So it is sort of understanding that a high energy and high risk prospect is going to a good amount less poised in his game.

Thats what we got in Dumba...kid with tools, just needs to settle down...

Lucia played his first collegiate game tonight. He finished +1 but didn't record a point or shot.

Dumba did play pretty poorly tonight. His passing was just plain bad imo, he was making bad decisions on the powerplay and on the breakout leading to many turnovers. He wasn't alone, the whole team seemed to be very sloppy in their own zone tonight but anyway I was not impressed. On the plus side he is very mobile and speedy overall amazing skating ability.

He might turn out to be a good prospect, but I still think our defense is a bit weak. There is a drop off between Dumba/Brodin and the next group of prospects.

well from the looks of it were gonna be locked out for the year and we have a chance at the top pick, so my guess is we pick 5th pick and we take advantage of whatever player is given to us, most likely a defensmen that isn't Jones

I was thinking...

We could use more high-end defensive prospects, but we could also use more goal-scoring wingers. I'm going to say in the 2013 draft we go BPA just because our prospect pool has some pretty good depth.

(Disclaimer: I only really saw the second period)

I did not see Dumba as bad at all. He made a few questionable plays but he wasn't turning the puck over anywhere near as often as say Rielly was (who was awful IMO). I often saw odd man breaks for the Russian team which appeared to be due to either a turnover in the Canadian zone or a defenseman out of position.

Two goals against Dumba I saw in the second were:

One where he slid to stop a pass on a 2-on-1 but the Russian waited and made the pass for a backdoor tap-in. Not the best move, but on the plus side when Dumba slid, he did NOT screen the goalie like some might drop to a knee, and there should have been another defenseman and/or forward coming back to pick up the other guy and/or pressure the puck carrier so he doesn't have all day to screw with the puck.

Second one Dumba had his guy tied up in the crease but again there was another Russian with nobody on him whatsoever. So the puck carrier had two passing options, Dumba tied up his man by lifting his stick, the other guy was wide open with nobody covering him.

There was a shift where the Russians nearly scored that Dumba was way up like a forechecker and that definitely would have been his fault. It was an odd man break for the Russians and to his credit Dumba came back FLYING with ridiculous speed to get back into the play.

Other little faults I saw were some not great passes...he made some great ones but sometimes got a little lazy with them. Of course the Russians did a great job of taking away passing lanes in the NZ and of forechecking in general. He also moved around quite a bit in his end which could have caught him out of position, but he did seem to find a man to tie up frequently. Not the end of the world considering it's not an established team with a system.

Now on the plus side, he shot the puck a lot and showed off impressive puck skills. I was really impressed when he smoothly kicked a bad pass right back to his tape and sent it right back up the ice. A routine play for a good NHL'er but not necessarily for a kid. He was physical without getting out of position in that he would pop players when he had the opportunity but wouldn't chase them around the ice. He also had tremendous speed (see the above backcheck) and was evasive when picking up the puck in his end with a forechecker pressuring him.

Overall I came away impressed with him and think he should get a shot at the WJC.

Goal Scoring winger is our biggest need in my opinion. We could use more depth at D, but between all the prospects like Kampfer, Genoway, Cuma, Falk, or even Connelly or Bagnall we have enough guys we could call up in a pinch for a 4-7 role.

We were talking Bussieres

I'd agree with you though...but Seeler/Draeger/Gunnarsson could be steals.

Yeah it's just BPA for me next year. With Suter/Dumba/Brodin we have a few elite/potentially elite defenders for the next 7+ years and with Coyle/Zucker there's a couple likely 30 goal scorers.

Just please, please, please don't draft an "elite" third liner or defensive defenseman a la Colton Gillies or Luke Schenn. Get a skilled guy.

Say if we are picking 30th and elite shutdown dman isn't a bad pick, now if we trade out 2nd to move up to 17 to take an elite grinder it's a different story

I do believe in fletcher and flahr when it comes to drafting

We better not be drafting 30! I hope we get top 5 and pick up Barkov/Drouin.

No.

MacKinnon, Jones, Monahan, Pulock, Nichushkin or no one at all.

But seriously..

I want one of them in green.

I would not be disappointed if we ended up with Barkov at all.

Said it before and again -- I would be happy to be proven wrong (especially if the Wild took him), but I see him as JVR 2.0.
