Sammy Noreau had a goal and an assist last night. He now has 17 points in 21 games. For reference, last year he had 17 points in 58 games. He's also a plus 11. Great, great season for him so far. Keep it up, kid.
Noreau won't set the world on fire but look around the league. Players like him are few and far between. John Erskine. Matt Carkner. Stu Bickel. Tough guys who keep the game simple and are willing to go through a wall for their teammates are good guys to have around for a long season. I loved the pick.
However I also loved the Randy McNaught pick the year before
Noreau already has better skating than someone like Stu Bickel, too. I think he can really be an Erskine-like defender. Probably better, even. I think the 6/7 upside was quite bearish on him. 5/6 is his upside with a 7/AHL top 2 as his downside, IMHO. Frankly, if Bickel is in the NHL there is no reason for Noreau to not be.

I am a HUGE fan of the kid, but I never thought his offense would develop this much. Yes, he's an older guy in the CHL but I never thought I'd see him remotely near a PPG pace. I would be surprised if he ever put up more than 15-20 points at the NHL level, but it's certainly nice to see.

This offense is very surprising. Would be great if he can stay near this pace for the year.

Yep. At his age he is leaps and bounds ahead of where Bickel was. Just needs to keep his game simple and use his reach. I'm glad he is having a good year and I hope it continues. Moreau and McIlrath on the blue line together would be nice.
Great stats by Noreau. Who's seen him? Was it a lucky few games or is he really that much improved offensively?
I haven't seen him, but his game-by-game stats would indicate that his offense has been pretty consistent. Since the first 3 games of the season, he hasn't gone more than 2 games without a point.
definitely gotta like the progress...anytime a 4th, 5th, 6th rounder turns into a legit depth peice its a big time plus.
our blueline depth in the system is thin after mcilarth now that all the other kids are in ny and erixon is gone...so if skjei, noreau and anderson turn out to be players that is huge for the organization depth
Obviously neither Fogarty or Nieves lit the world on fire last night but I liked what I saw from both of them. They both looked extremely confident for first semester freshmen.
Fogarty's comfort level was night and day from the first ND game that was televised.

I didn't realize just how big Nieves is until I saw him play last night. He looks lanky but he is tall.
Both looked pretty good for being Freshmen. I wish they both got more ice time but oh well.
Also, I watched the WHL vs Russian Select Team game from 2 nights ago with St. Croix and he looked pretty good. Definitely not weak and unwilling to engage physically as he has been called out for many times. Is he super physical like Callahan? No. But not many players are. He actually reminded me a bit of Stepan.
Just thought of something. The Rangers don't have a 2013 1st. If there is a lottery and every team has a chance at #1, it is going to suck if they get a good pick................

Yea I've had that terrible thought in the back of my mind for a while. You know the Rangers will manage to "win the lottery!" somehow.

so the Jackets will get 1st overall.. yup i can see it happening and he will manage to score a hat trick in his first game against the Rangers and will be his first NHL points in a shutout win for the Jackets and that will somehow make the Rangers lose home ice in the playoffs
