To put into context how big an MLB stadium is, to get a site that could host an MLB-size facility you would need to build on top of a site the size of Dawson College plus the Forum's site thrown in for good measure.
Go for it. Then move Dawson College to where the Olympic Stadium is.

Priorities!

How about the site of the Ilot Voyageur, Quebec answer to THAT monstrous North Korean hotel that's never getting finished either? Is it big enough?

Nope. It remains unfinished and hideous. Also there's the bus central station underneath.

How about a stadium at Jean Drapeau park? Close to the casino and pretty accessible, the limited number of times I've been.

Proximity to a casino = fixed games, etc. Why do you think there aren't any teams in Las Vegas?

IMO tear down the Faubourg and build it there.

You could get season tickets for baseball for probably the price of a pair of reds for a Habs game!!

they should put the super hospital construction to a halt, tear it all down, and build the stadium there

Right... Why would it create more fixed game than if the stadium was downtown? Does not really make sense.

It makes sense for Vegas, cause those casino's are all managed by the mob, but Montreal's casino is another thing. It may actually be a good idea to have the stadium there.

Brulotte already mentioned that the potential ownership group would build a stadium at the Hippodrome, possibly.

If mob ownership is the problem you can't put it anywhere in Montreal could you?

although i've only lived in montreal for a year for my studies - and that was a bazillion years ago. someone from montreal needs to explain why all that complaining about the olympic stadium. it's not downtown? i used to lived on du fort, near the old forum and i went to many expos games - no hassle! so what would be downtown exactly?

seriously, i never understood that "build a stadium downtown" stuff... someone enlighten me

It's in the East end, hard to attract walks ins compared to if the Stadium would be downtown. + it's also old and having an open Stadium would be awesome

It's not the only problem for Vegas, but it is a problem. Biggest problem is that it's too much of a tourist city, which makes it difficult to build a fan base. At least, that's what they are saying, even though the metropolitan area has almost 2 millions, which I guess is a little low, but not that bad..

An open stadium at the old Hippodrome site would be ok I guess. Not as good as downtown but easily reachable through the metro orange line and by car as well.

The key is to have an open air stadium and the best would have been at the proposed location back in the day. (right behind the Bell Centre)

A downtown stadium would be better for a few reasons.

1. Accessible for people who are not taking the metro. Not everyone wants to pile into a packed subway car to go see a ballgame. Many people would rather drive there and park their car somewhere safe. That was hardly an option at Olympic Stadium.

2. Walk-ins. If someone is walking around downtown in the summer, and see the stadium, they'd feel more inclined to go to the game, rather than going way out of their way to the east end to see a game, and then come back afterwards. People would like to just go to the bar for a few beers, check out the game, and then head back to the bar, head back home, etc. Olympic Stadium is out of the way.

3. This is more about the stadium itself than it's location, but the place was just an ugly dump. You'd be surrounded by bright yellow seats, and a roof that looked like it was being held up by duct tape. A new ballpark, where you could actually see the Montreal sky, would have really made the experience of baseball way better. I've seen games at Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium, Skydome (and soon to visit all three parks in Southern California), and nothing beats sitting outdoors, drinking a cold beer, and watching baseball. This hasn't been possible in Montreal since the Jarry Park days, way before my time.

My friend Justin had a poster of the proposed Labatt Park in his room at his parents' place...

Just compare the experience of going to an Impact game at the Big O vs Saputo Stadium. It's much nicer being outside than in that huge closed toilet bowl.
