There is a strong possibility Matt Frattin could play in Friday's game in Hamilton, six months since knee surgery put a halt on his promising development. Once he gets comfortable, the Marlies will likely give him prime ice time, as Eakins believes he and Jake Gardiner will get promoted first. Frattin was one of the few Leafs young guns make the most of the chance given him in 2011-12 and kept rolling with the Marlies until an unfortunate head-on meeting with a goal-post in the Western Conference final.
"Matt has an appointment with the doctor when we get back," Eakins said of the winger's final check-up from a specialist. "I don't want him having any indecision about his knee when he's playing out there."
I know he said that he was thinking about this before, and he did only come here for the NHL, but this really hurts the team. Not to mention he's been our best forward the past couple weeks and he was finally starting to get used to the N.A. ice. I'm not surprised he left, but I'm a little surprised that he left at the same moment that he finally starts to get a feel for the difference in the game. Why not wait a month to acclimatize a little more?
I was the brown guy behind the marlies bench with a phaneuf jersey, i think i came up in the cam when the dance crew was there lol.
Kadri was playing a nice game but great for skills his other parts of the game has improved but not to the point I'd personally he's fully ready for the NHL. However for a young kid breaking the ice in the NHL, he's ready. He's bulkier than before too but he needs more strengthening for sure. I was so pissed that he missed a goal JUST by an INCH! Stupid post.
Colborne definitely exited more earlier than I've wanted however this guy is special he has his limelight stolen from Kadri but he's a good one folks. Believe it with a bit more polish he will be a solid addition. He doesn't seem like much or doesn't show that flash but trust me he has that skill more so than people think so IMO. Maybe that's what the hidden potential people were talking about.
Gards is all but done as I've said in the AHL what's expected of him. He's shooting more and slowly getting more points, need I say more? He's ready for the bigs and I hope he works on that pass.
Blacker was good but there were times he just seemed a bit out of place IMO.
Mckegger only proved my idea that it's going to be a while before he is ready for the bigs IMO. He was absolutely gassed up at one point, where he had to switch early after taking some good strides, his acceleration has improved a LOT though, assuming due to his training under Underhill.
Ryan was an absolute beast, score or not he will be a hockey player. He did everything right and was just great, from blocking shots to taking hits for your players (stortini). He is a guy who doesn't take crap if your teammate is getting picked on, loved him when he stood up for Acton.
D'amigo is slowly getting there but it seems that eakins is mostly putting him in the areas of defense rather than the offense this time around, he was great on the PK.
Brad Ross with the limited time he played was a beast, killed people several times and was chirping on and off lol. I met up with him after the game, he's a really chill dude and totally the opposite of how he is on the ice.
Holzer looked good as well and as ready as he can be for the NHL bottom pair.
Mike Kotska is an awesome dude off the ice as well lol. We met up with his friends lol they were going crazy hahah. He's built but he's shorter than I have thought, so it might be a harder for him to crack in the NHL more so that I had initially thought.
Speaking of height...Jesus Aucoin is short man lol.
Last but not least...Scrivens.....oh how good you were till that stupid stupid ass powerplay screw up....GARDS WAS ON YOUR LEFT DAMN IT !!! Anyways he was quiet but good IMO, showed the older patient form compared the past few starts.
If there are any player or prospects that I have missed, tell me and I should be able to tell you about them from the game.
Edit: Deschamp was good for that goal but man was he quiet afterwards lol.

Yup notes look good. Acton played well defensively and I'm glad we were able to get the win without Frattin. Ranger played quietly yet solidly.

Good write up, I share most of those opinions.
The only thing I'd add is I thought Paul Ranger was fantastic today. He showed to me at least that he probably won't be in the AHL when the NHL gets going again.

Acton was a beauty tonight, got crushed four times retaliated nicely and still played well.
I knew I was forgetting someone, Ranger was great, he's a lot taller than he looks for sure. He is definitely fit as Eakins had stated man. He will get there slowly and steady was doing very well lol.
Any other prospect not mentioned there that you are wondering about likely got 0 points.
Nobody on the team was a minus in case you were wondering.
Scrivens - 16 saves.
Scrivens 16 saves and 1 assist.
At least it took the pressure off the shut-out talk.

He's a scout's dream in the way he prepares himself and plays an unselfish game, making smart decisions with the puck. With his bloodlines, he certainly understands what it will take to make it at the next level.
Didn't see the game, but from the sounds of that I'm guessing he gave up a juicy rebound or something haha.
It was a funny one.
His team was changing, they were on the PP, and Scrivens sent a pass up center right onto the stick of Palushaj outside the blueline. Palushaj came in and put a nice shot in past Scrivens. Because of the score it wasn't really a concern, but otherwise he'd have had the shut-out.

Powerplay marlies, Marlies defense were switching. Bulldogs iced the puck, scrivens went for the puck tried to do a long pass through center ice, Palushaj was right there, took it and put it in the goal. Scrivent totally didn't see Gards towards the left.

Scrivens was just toying with them, making them think they were in the game
Certainly could be the other variables factoring into the attendance boost this year, though it doesn't necessarily seem to be the lockout with AHL attendance down on average.
Presumably it will settle a bit lower, but the Marlies are looking at 4 straight years of attendance growth and are currently 10th in the league.

Komorov was supposed to be gone Thursday but had two points on Saturday. Is it confirmed he is leaving/gone? sorry I don't think the KHL is much better than the AHL and I doubt it better prepares players for the NHL. There are NHL busts who are studs over there, it's a different game. If he's going for the money, then I can't blame him though.
Frattin steps in for a 2 goal performance and then is scratched? Is he hurt? Does anyone have a link?

He wants to leave to make a legit salary but he wants to ensure he can come back over to play in the NHL if the season comes back. They're trying to work out the contract details to make sure he can in fact do that.

Cervenka would have been an interesting comp if he had stayed to play in Abbotsford. I am not dissing the caliber of all players in that league, just that being a star in the AHL doesn't mean you aren't good enough to be a star in the K.

It does seem like he has broken through in the AHL and that would have to give him confidence. I think he will benefit from the exposure if he returns to an NHL camp. Language, some familiar team mates and opponents.
The Leafs have a group of top six guys that could really do some damage if they can manage to match their best seasons in the last two years and that is obviously not impossible. What they need is guys that play bigger than just their stats. I think guys like Komorov and maybe eventually Ross are that sort.
I know the AHL isn't what he wanted or expected when he came over here and despite his decision to go back to Russia, I love the fact that the guy hasn't mailed it in because he knows he's leaving soon.

Can you do Evander Kane?
Just a little different game, but better than AHL.

I don't know why Kane couldn't score in the KHL but how does that prove the KHL is better than the AHL? Stapleton is a beast in the KHL but sucks in the NHL while Kane is a beast in the NHL but didn't fare as well in the KHL. I think its all about how your style translates. Comparable leagues, I'd give the edge to the KHL though.
