But again look at the stats I posted as the season wore Miggy got better while Trout started to fade. You don't win a golf tournament on Thursday and Friday you win by doing it the whole weekend and turning it on Sunday and that is what Miggy did.

You can't say Trout is more deserving of the MVP cause he steals more bases or is faster....that is a part of his game that Miggy does not have so good on Trout for using a god given talent.

I can go out and cherry pick stats like the poster did and prove why Miggy is the MVP in a landslide over Trout.
However you have yet to do so.

All Miggy had last season over Trout is hitting, and even that was very similar. Trout on the other hand was a much better fielder then Miggy and his speed allowed him to score much more frequently. Nobody is trying to say Trout is more deserving of the MVP because of his speed, it's just that when the offence is so similar between the two you have to look at the other aspects of the game.

Someone was going to reward the guy and likely benefit huge.

Melky's getting punished... no batting title, couldnt play in the WS, and probably lost about 20 million in guaranteed money on the open market because of what he did.

Honestly I think thats punishment enough... someone was going to pay this guy to play, and I'm glad it was us.

Honestly, he redeemed himself with me when he took his name out of the batting title race. I think that was very honorable on his part. Also, San Fran leaving him off the world series winning roster was a pretty big punishment on it's own.

Hopefully this is true. All of the news sites and tweets are citing one single source, Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com

The Marlins trade, this signing and perhaps some more deals. Already looking forward to next season. The Jays just have to stay healthy.

Yup, I feel EE should patrol 1B. Other than DH, I'm not seeing much room for Lind here anymore.

Pretty much. I'd be worried if Rajai was still our LF.

Great job AA and co.

Don't get me wrong, I like having him on board, I just think he needs a year to prove himself that he can still be a good hitter while off the PEDs before receiving a multi year deal.

Fantastic move and totally worth the risk. Improves the outfield and the line up is now stacked 1-9

You haters got to stop with this steroid and cheating stuff. He took it like A LOT of players do, he got caught, he did his time and served a lengthy suspension and now he needs a fresh start and a second chance. There will obviously be less power in his game but he's still a very solid ball player and should be a big part of the offence even without the juice.

This is a smart, calculated move. 8 million a year is reasonable, and while the second year is a little bit questionable, here's hoping Melky is motivated and determined to prove himself and have a big year.

AA going all out, just fantastic to see and man does it feel good to be a Jays fan right now

Maybe not that low. I was thinking he'd get a 1yr 5-6yr prove something deal. Or if he was really lucky, a 2yr worth 10-14m. I'm taking a wait and see approach as to how I feel about it.

This offseason:

Jose Bautista .358 OBP/.286 ISO
Adam Lind .314 OBP/.159 ISO
Edwin Encarnacion .384 OBP/.277 ISO
Kelly Johnson .313 OBP/.140 ISO
Yunel Escobar .300 OBP/.091 ISO
J.P Arencibia .275 OBP/.202 ISO
Rajai Davis .309 OBP/.121 ISO

Too lazy to check the splits, but you get the gist.

Also many of these guys were not really suitable for their roles in the '12 lineup, but with the new acquisitions we finally have a true leadoff hitter plus a really good #2 and that sets the order perfectly.

Melky will hit 2nd.

Might as well just split the time there for now.

I think overall Lind is the better 1B, and I think EE also hits better when he's not playing a position.

Lind's got great range for a 1B too.

1 WAR is worth 4 million a year on FA market. He is underpaid.

So, what is AA going to do at the Winter Meetings? Just kind of hobnob and do a lot of "how's it going?" type of stuff.

Other than maybe getting another pitcher, threre really isn't anything else to do!

3-5 was probably market value for him, but if AA was up against another team and they were pushing 6-7 for him, than doesn't putting forward that extra few million make sense? He decided to go all in and when he decides he wants someone he makes sure to get him.

This is exactly what competing is all about, takes serious money and a manager has to have the balls to go out and get a player of his quality.

If 3 million is the difference between Melky Cabrera and a raw Anthony Gose in the outfield, I am perfectly happy with that.

The teams core is locked up and rogers has plenty of cash. factor in the revenue bump in tickets/merchandise and money from the tv deal and we should expect to see this kind of payroll going forward.

He probably could have gotten $7 million from an American team. Consider $8 million/year the price to pay to attract a FA to a Canadian city with higher taxes.

He'll be a boss and go sign a rock solid #5 starter like Brandon McCarthy, who by the way was just cleared to resume baseball activity
