You may have read in the Province today (if you still read newspapers for some reason, as I got a chance to do whilst being otherwise swindled at Mr. Lube) that Jensen intends to stay overseas due to the likelihood of an extremely shortened NHL/Canucks training camp that caters to veteran engine-revving rather than prospect opportunities.
Let's face it, Jensen probably wasn't going to get that much of a look unless Kassian fell COMPLETELY flat. Even then, Weise, Hansen, Burrows and Raymond are probably either ahead or on par in the RW depth charts.
The way I understand it, if Jensen never reports to the Canucks this year I don't think it would eat a year of his contract away... it would be great to get Jensen at another year on rookie salary if he ends up being a bottom-six filler. Playing in the SEL is pretty much parallel to the AHL anyway, and he's getting first-line minutes over there.
I don't think many people had Jensen penciled into the Canucks line-up for 2012-2013. He turns 20 in March, so it would have been Junior or Sweden for him, no AHL until his Junior team got eliminated. We could have given him a 10 game try-out, but given the past history of MG I don't think he would take chances with an under 20 player unless he played lights out in training camp. I think he'll spend '13-'14 in the AHL with a couple of call-ups, and possibly a regular spot in the line-up for '14-'15.
