Do some research? Relax.

I'm well aware of the fact that this trade is very unlikely to get vetoed, I'm just simply stating a reason as to why some people may be a tad bit worried.

And also, people are likely worried because as we all know in the small case of it actually happening, it would SERIOUSLY suck.

Why so harsh? It was a reasonable comment. Relax

Maybe some other UFA will sign for less because they want to win a pennant.

The Jays only signed 1 UFA so far even if it feels like more

I don't think Acta is a bad option. He understands platoon splits, hates sac bunts... has had bad luck managing crappy teams. He is a laid back guy though and I don't know if that will work -- I want the manager to be a little bit more firm and be able to motivate guys here and there (though athletes shouldn't require much motivation) or at least be a good communicator and keep the clubhouse together.

no doubt. I'll repeat the winter meetings haven't even started and he's done all of this already. I guess we know how AA reacts to have a green light.

God damn I love A.A. About time we acted like a big-market team. This will assuredly draw a hell of a lot of interest to the team, and will fill the seats. Also, if we were really ballsy, we would sign Greinke, just to be major trolls and have a dominant rotation.

Anything can happen.

I'm an Eagles fan also, so, I know this feeling. Don't get worked up about being great on paper. Good God, I've fallen from grace too many times.

I am loving AA's plan this off-season, strike early and often. I hope all these players can turn this Blue Jays club from a sub .500 team into a playoff team. Going into spring this is a new team in all aspects and I like it.

I don't see how there would be money left for Greinke or even Haren.

Really think best we could hope for would be Marcum/McCarthy/Blanton. Any of those 3 would make for a damn good #5 starter.

In that span the Jays have won 2 world series, and the Leafs have been to 4 conference finals.

They signed Maicer Izturis too. He'll be a quality starter or a great platoon player with Bonifacio.

Switch Lind and J.P. and it's almost like having another Top-4.

They've signed two already and in baseball it's just FA not UFA. UFA is only for hockey.

Well, an interesting few days in Blue Jays land. It's about damn time Rogers opens the cheque book. Don't stop now, they're still another SP and lefty power bat away from being real serious contenders. Adam Laroche and Edwin Jackson would be ideal. Or comparable players acquired if going the trade route. They have JPA as a good trade chip. Maybe now Oliver will be persuaded to come back. One can only hope.

My ideal line-up:

1. Reyes - SS
2. Cabrera - LF
3. Bautista - RF
4. Encarnacion - DH
5. Laroche - 1B
6. Lawrie - 3B
7. Rasmus - CF
8. Buck - C
9. Bonifacio - 2B

Bench:

INF - Izturis
OF - Davis
C - Wilson(until d'Arnaud is ready)

SP:

Morrow
Johnson
Buerhle
Jackson
Romero

RP:

CL - Janssen
SU - Santos
LHP - Oliver
LHP - Loup
RHP - Delabar
RHP - Rogers
RHP - Lincoln
Long Man/6th Starter - Happ

They likely go with an extra bench player as opposed to an 8 man bullpen, but the
25th man on the roster isn't really a big deal.

Now this is a roster that can be a strong playoff contender. Keep the ball rolling AA.

I still think the biggest hole that Toronto has right now is a quality 1st baseman.

Yes, EE can field that position but I think he is the most comfortable at being a DH, and letting him focus on hitting 40+ hr's again. We really need to unload JPA+Lind+ for a quality 1st baseman. With the quality of hitting we just acquired we could focus more on a decent contract, and defensive/leadership abilities as opposed to a real solid power bat. It would make it a lot easier to acquire.

That being said, we are already eating contracts.... lets get Morneau!

why do we want any closer or unproven starter? JJ is the better option for starter. i like the Marcum move though. Not sure what off field issues he had but it's a whole new team now as u can see

Seriously guys, knock it off. unsourced (ie not from mainstream, accredited media) rumors or "I know a guy who knows a guy who said X" type speculation is not allowed on HF. It never has been for hockey and that same standard applies to baseball. Unless you can give us a link to somewhere reputable, it cannot be posted.

Given that this is now the 2nd warning within this page (after HF18's), there is no excuse for continuing to violate the rule.

Thank you.

On the strength of his win/loss record with Cleveland? I'd agree, but it's not like there are experienced managers on the market who come with big winning records. Those guys have jobs. So unless you're going to convince Bobby Cox or Joe Torre to un-retire, you're going to get a guy who has some baggage if you want experience, and so far that seems to be a priority in Anthopolous' search.

But remember, most managers have learned through adversity. Like teams, they often have to lose before they learn how to win. A guy like Acta - or even Wakamatsu, although he's not my choice - might well bring valuable insight from his previous struggles and be a very different, more effective manager.
