Yes, EE can field that position but I think he is the most comfortable at being a DH, and letting him focus on hitting 40+ hr's again. We really need to unload JPA+Lind+ for a quality 1st baseman. With the quality of hitting we just acquired we could focus more on a decent contract, and defensive/leadership abilities as opposed to a real solid power bat. It would make it a lot easier to acquire.

That being said, we are already eating contracts.... lets get Morneau!
wouldn't it look good if we had signed Fielder or Puljos now lol

It probably wouldn't have allowed us to make this current blockbuster and take on all this salary.

Not an avid baseball fan, so I will keep it quick:

Why would it make sense for Marlins to do the trade if they claim it to be so lopsided?

Because Jeffrey Loria is super cheap.

Because this is Jeffrey Loria's MO: burn the roster down on a regular basis so the shoestring operating budget of the team means that he can pocket all the money they bring in from the stadium deal and MLB revenue sharing.

Jim Riggleman (Padres, Cubs, Mariners and Nationals)
DeMarlo Hale (would be awesome!)

It isn't that lopsided. They shed salary and got some nice young players/prospects. However, they didn't really get Jays best guys (got one in Marisnick) and probably should have gotten more for those guys but I don't think they could get that much better. Jays took on a lot of payroll and some of the guys present inherit risk. It kinda make sense for both teams from a pure baseball point of view, Marlins weren't going to win in the near future, Josh Johnson is a FA next season so why not sell now and keep your payroll low? However, they promised taxpayers that they would spend and be competitive if they built them the new ballpark but gave it all away after a season and Loria seems like a total scum now.

This is also their 3rd firesale and their fans are just crushed by all this. Will be very tough to convince FA to come to Miami too so if you look at things beyond the baseball point of view, it sucks for Miami. The opposite can be said for the Jays. All of a sudden, Rogers, AA and the entire organization has bought a ton of goodwill from fans, media and everybody -- they look like contenders, FA will be more willing to come here and the whole optics of finally spending money shuts up all the criticism/negativity towards the club. Of course, it makes sense for the Jays from a baseball point of view as well.

To further your point: you can even add the Raptors to making one conference final in that time span, and the Argos have a grey cup as well. What about the Ottawa Rough Riders? (only other Ottawa pro sports team in that time span I guess...haha) OH YA that's right..team folded. Sens made a cup final appearance that only people in Ottawa remember.... (I vaguely remember them scoring on their own net in that series)

Cheap owner. Same guy who sold the Expos down the river. His goal was to shed a ton of cash from his payroll. He was very successful to find a dance partner who could take on all of that money.

But remember, most managers have learned through adversity. Like teams, they often have to lose before they learn how to win. A guy like Acta - or even Wakamatsu, although he's not my choice - might well bring valuable insight from his previous struggles and be a very different, more effective manager.
Jim Tracy says hi. Check out his multiple winning record(s).

I thought the same, but an hour and 20-30 mins to work everyday is a bit much. Not to mention some of the traffic back and fourth on a daily basis would get extremely frustrating.

He's going to have to put on his big boy pants and leave the dog behind.

I never doubted AA for a second, the guy is a Jedi master.
But I did doubt Rogers, and I'm sorry for that. Never been so happy to be wrong in my life.

On paper we have a top 5-10 team, and a top 5-10 farm system and still have a top 10 pick to add to it.

Conf. Semifinals, Game 7, VC missed the game winning shot.

feels bad man

Also SN listed the odds of winning the WS from Bodog.net

it was something like...

Detroit Tigers - 17/2
Washington Nationals - 17/2
San Francisco Giants - 10/1
Toronto Blue Jays - 11/1
New York Yankees - 11/1

I'm not disputing that that is in fact what he's doing... but they didn't exactly receive nothing in return. Perhaps to a Jays fan it's nothing because of the depth of the prospect pool here but those prospects aren't nobodies.

It is a long commute but he is gonna have to make a hard decision either way. He will probably have a different off-season home to save on taxes he can leave the dogs there if he has to.
