That's not true at all...the beginning is a necessary plot point. You may not be able to do everything you can later in the game, but it certainly isn't a 5 hour tutorial. Without giving anything away, basically you don't play as Connor until about 3-5 hours into the game...but the things that happen at the beginning are fun, interesting, informative and unexpected. There are some things I didn't like about the game but it being slow wasn't one of htem.
AC:3 is awesome but man it is a lot harder than 2.
In regards to it being hard, this is especially true if you try and get every optional objective associated with each mission. Some of the optional objectives are completely ridiculous and frustrating...but I appreciated them because it did make the game harder. Just like the previous games it's nearly impossible to actually be killed in combat...counter system makes for easy kills....so in place of actually dying, striving to get the optional objectives gives you a reason to actually try things over again.
I've heard it's super glitchy. You guys run into that at all?
My tomahawk got unequipped one time, but all I had to do was stop by a store are re-equip it and then I was good. Also my game froze once, but that's not really it being glitchy. Those are the only 2 problems I've run into the entire time, and I've beaten the game. I have it for PS3, so maybe other versions are glitchier?
I didn't have any problems with glitches in it. And the 5 hour 'tutorial' is a backstory. It definitely works. Very good, in fact.
As for Halo 4. Wow. Incredible. Cutscenes made it look like a movie.
Only 2 complaints I have are the flight controls for the fighter(don't know name), pretty bad. And it only took a shade under 5 hours to complete the main story.

Ah, the Death Star Trench Run. Yes, it was truly amazing. The cutscenes were soooooooo good.
The fighter was called a Broadsword, btw.
And I finished the campaign on Normal in about 5 1/2 or so. This weekend I might try to do a legendary run, but christ it is hard. I tried it twice already and it was a no go.
AC:2 had a long tutorial as well, but after that it picked up. I'd say so long as it gets you playing within 10 minutes and you're not getting hand-held more than playing over the first few hours it's okay. I'm looking right at you FFXIII.

On another forum long tutorials were brought up and people were asked to post the longest they know of.
Apparently some Japanese RPG on PSP had a tutorial that lasted 3 hours.
But it was all scrolling text cutscenes. The first actual battle took place 3 hours into the game, and even then it kept taking breaks to tell you what exactly to do.
All I could do was laugh. Some people and their attention spans.

Yea, I did it on normal, too. I've got the achievements for beating the others on legendary. I figure I should go for those, too. Probably at least 10 hours for that. Will have to buy it. Awesome game.

All of them except Elder Scrolls and Red Dead.
Yap. All the characters in that campaign were memorable. I especially liked Seth, Irish and Nigel West Dickens.
People forget about Red Dead Redemption for the last generation. Even that campaign was pretty awesome. Wasn't free roam, but it was still pretty damn good.
My black friday goal, some of which I have already found:
LEGO Batman 2 True Blood seasons 1-4
Cabin in the Woods
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Breaking Bad seasons 3-4
Amazing Spider Man
Modern Family seasons 1-4
Might not get all of it, but getting half/most would be enough, IMO. Hopefully I can do so.
Why wouldn't you just use your HBO GO for that? Just wondering. I mean, I bought The Wire on DVD last Black Friday and regretted it because I could just stream it any time, anywhere.

I'm bumming HBO Go through my parents, and my dad is talking about cancelling HBO in a few months once our promotion is over. And at my new apartment I'm not even going to be paying for cable, let alone HBO
Oh, and if anyone wants Breaking Bad, season 1-4 blu ray is $11.99 at best buy this week. Same for Justified and some other show I can't remember.
