Even with Merrill I would be hesitant. Larsson is absolutely a non-starter, you're right. Lou and DeBoer and the fanbase all view him as the foundation of the Devils defence of the future.

The Devils also do not need a goalie prospect, I don't know why this myth keeps cropping up. Wedgewood and Kinkaid are both very promising prospects.

I don't think Larsson is available under any circumstances. I'd consider dealing him for Seguin, but even then I'd be hesitant.

I certainly am not trading him for a goalie or defenseman.

I don't think Larsson would available either, I also don't think Seguin would be available and if he were it would take more than Larsson to get him so that doesn't work either.

I never did say I thought it was a reasonable trade offer, merely that Seguin would be the guy I as a Devils fan would ask for in exchange for Larsson. It doesn't make sense for NJ to trade him otherwise, and I'm not convinced it even makes sense then. It also doesn't make sense for Boston to deal Seguin, so there's no deal to be made here.

I would certainly welcome Rask to this team, but not at the cost of Larsson. Not many guys in the league I'd consider dealing Larsson for that would be in any way realistic. Boston isn't willing to give up what the asking price would be for a guy who is viewed as the future of the defense on this team for years to come.

The organization has plenty of goalie prospects they're quite high on, and if they aren't ready, it's not difficult to find a UFA stopgap.

Cool.

I'm looking over the Bruins prospect page on HF right now and I recognize like 5 of these names.

The others must be garbage. You know, since I've never heard of them.

Boston wont give up what it will take to land a player of his caliber. Our GM is sold on the core we have right now.

I'm not as sold on our goalie prospects as my peers, but still, love me some Larsson. No thanks.

It's not about being sold on them, it's just we have Brodeur and Hedberg locked up until 2013-2014. There's no reason to trade for a Tuukka Rask, Cory Schnieder, etc., especially for the pieces we'd have to give up.

We're better off waiting it out and then assessing where the young guys are when Brodeur and Hedberg's contracts expire. If need be, we get a veteran goalie that can be a mentor and play well in a tandem with Kinkaid/Wedgewood. The better goalie gets the majority of the starts, Crawford, Halak, Hiller, Kiprusoff, and Elliot are all UFAs. Most probably won't get to UFA. Even Lundqvist is a UFA that year.

Maybe you speak for the two Devils fans who think Marty is washed up. The rest of us don't think we need a goalie or a goalie prospect yet, even though fans of every team are trying to foist their guy on us.

I only meant that NJ wouldn't pay what it would take to get Seguin, not that you suggested Larsson ws a fair swap.

We should all agree that NJ isn't trading Larsson and Boston isn't trading Seguin, Rask, Bergeron, or Lucic as was suggested by some people.

We are talking about last years Cup finalist and the year before's Cup champs, neither team is going to make this kind of blockbuster type of deal while they believe they have almost all the pieces to win a Cup.
