Well, I am now unemployed. Still F/T University student but my job of 4 yrs let me go a few weeks ago. I was a bartender, when I was fired for giving an ounce of rye for free to an ex-doorman. Anyone that has worked in the industry understands how ridiculous it is to be fired over such a thing, especially since I was the most senior staff member and had previously been approached to consider taking on a management position but turned it down to focus on my studies.

The real reason I was fired is that quite simply the owner wants to clean house. The manager gave his notice for right before Christmas, the assistant manager is not going to be considered for the open position as he was already fired as manager from another bar owned by the same guy. They went from having a group that had (including the manager, assistant manager, DJ, and three senior staff that include myself) over 40 yrs experience. None less then 3 years experience. After New Years the place will have probably one person, the day girl, who has been there for more then a year. So much for going where everybody knows your name.

So now I suppose I have time to take part in the body transformation thread as well.

That's basically not having a job. I had that problem right as I stopped working at Rite-Aid. 8 hours or less a week and that was it. Quit because of that kind of stupid crap. Hope you find something better soon .

Solution:

1.) Move to Vegas
2.) Get a job dealing poker
3.) Learn the tricks to the game
4.) Play yourself using funds acquired from poker dealer job
5.) Win or Lose
6.) Profit...or loss.

I feel like quitting my job, it's only 22 hours a week but its getting in the way of my school and the pay is not that bad for a shi*ty part time job. It pays $14/hour so the only thing stopping me from quitting it is that I won't find another part time job that pays that much but at the same time school > part-time job

At my old retail job the minimum they said you had to do was 20 hours a week and they were giving me that for the first 2.5 years then idk what went wrong...the next 6 months i was consistently getting exactly 5 hours a week. Kind of hard to live off of $180/month after taxes considering my cellphone bill eats up $70.

Honestly, just put your objectives, work experience, career highlights, and education.

LinkedIn profiles are actually becoming a good standard...companies don't want to read pages and pages, which is why it baffles me when people submit resumes longer than 2 pages.

Hell, our company hired a developer with a one page resume: it was the value of his experience and skills, not how many adjectives he used to describe himself in his résumé.

Pro tip: boost up your LinkedIn profile. In a recent study (Jobvite I believe), 93% of companies surveyed mentioned that they used LinkedIn as part of their recruiting process.

Had that 3 hour interview Tuesday November 20th. I think it went very well. Seemed like a lot of good vibes for both sides. They said it would be a couple weeks before they would make a decision. Finally got a call from them today and told me I'm still being considered and it will take a couple more weeks. I guess it is a good thing, I want this job but why would it take to so long to hire lol.

That means they hired someone else but they either rejected the offer or diet pass a background check, so they had to revisit the available candidates.

I have my first interview on Friday. I started applying for things mid-October, so I'm really looking forwards to this. My prep is going well so far. It's funny how much I've missed having deadlines and a set schedule.

Remember there are other candidates who applied for the job and could have killed the interview. Nothing is guaranteed and you can't be feeling good about anything till you have your first paycheque. Stay focused and take nothing for granted.

So I got an Email from the job that I interviewed for. It was sent to the other managers i would be working with and I was also on the "to" line. I havent even been hired yet but I take it this could be good news if the higher ups think Im suppose to be on the team already. Or should I keep the pessimistic attitude and figure it was a slip up and not get my hopes up
