Like a poster said earlier, an average forward and Karlsson or an average defenseman and Datsuk.. Which would you trust more

Id trust Datsyuk more

Think of it like Datsyuk and McQuaid vs Caron and Karlsson
You could make a case for either pairing.

Bottom-6ers are pretty good defensive players. They have to be - if they don't buy into the system, they don't have the skillset to make it as an NHLer. So Caron, while being 'mediocre' is still competent in his own end.

Karlsson might lack the physicality of a McQuaid, but Karlsson's also used to playing against top-quality opposition. Karlsson's real key though is his breakout ability. Phenomenal at getting the puck out of the zone, which is a huge part of killing off the final few minutes of a game.

You do realize that when Karlsson was put on the PK 2 years go, since January, Ottawa had a 95% kill rate with Karlsson average 1:30 PK minutes.

You're talkin like he has never played PK. Well he has and he was huge factor in it. Get your facts right.

"Obviously, goaltending was the biggest part of it," added Carvel, who also gave credit to the work of Ryan Shannon, Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson, who he says is a "tremendous" penalty killer.
Perhaps you're mistaken in thinking its just that easy. But then again, why would you want one of the quickest players in the game who happens to be a puck thief and breakout artist on your PK? Clearing the puck out of the zone is child's play compared to what Karlsson does for the breakout 5 on 5.

You people ever think that's why he plays so much at 5 on 5? Duh.

The more I think about it the easier the question becomes.

Even further, Who do you want on the ice against a Malkin or Stamkos all game long? Datsyuk or Karlsson?

Not trying to spit on Karlsson it's just the truth.

If i was trying to score a goal late in the game i'd much rather have Karlsson on the ice than a ton of current Forwards in the NHL.
its funny you bring this up because , Karlsson dominated Giroux, Stamkos and Malkin head to head.

I beleive they are a combined -16 agasint EK

karlsson hardly has to defend agasintthem because he pinned them down in their own end , forcing THEM to play defence
have a nice day

Ya, but how many of those minuses came from goals against while Karlsson was on the PK? I believe the consensus on these messageboards is that that's all that matters.

No one in Ottawa would care if the criticisms against Karlson game were legitimate.

90% of them are just blatant lies.

karlsson wasn't put on the pk until january, which btw coincides with our pk becoming the best in the league.

1:30 is taking into account the whole season

from jan on , he was on the number 1 pk pair

in 110 minutes shorthanded time karlsson was on the ice.

he was only scored on 3 times

anyone who says karlsson cant pk , is a retard

If it's relevant to position - Datsyuk.

If it's relevant to defense equally - Karlsson.

Is there anyway to ban the name or use of " Erik Karlsson" on HF?

Who's a better goalie? Josh Gorges or Steve Mason?

Just a dumb question.

This right here ,lots of BS and crying from other fans claiming to know something about how the game is played.Fact is EK plays the small skilled defenseman game perfect. But in their eyes only the big physical game deserves merit and should be exclusive holders of the norris trophy

Well then you're asking who's better relative to their position. In which case it's obviously datsyuk. He's a top 5 forward defensively, whereas karlsson is average-above average defensively for a dman.

Did you really think karlsson was anywhere near top 5 Dman defensively in the league to make this poll close?

Like i've said before. If it's just total general defense, then karlsson by a landslide. But since you just said it's relative to their position, then datsyuk by a landslide. Suprise?
