That a player who plays and excels at a north/south game didn't transition well into a league that plays an east/west game is indicative of nothing other than that, FYI.

However, when a Russian player who excels at puck possesion and creative hockey doesn't excel in the NHL, he's a heartless, greedy Euro.

Not sure where I said that? Oh yeah, I didn't. That has nothing to do with Kane either. Kane's game just didn't translate into the KHL style of play, period. This thread though consists mainly of people trying to score some cheap alternate political points and as well a bunch of needless player bashing. Whatever. Carry on, haters.
Interestingly enough Tim Stapleton is the leading scorer on the team (6th in the league). Kane just got a 6 year $31.5 M contract and is one of the Jets future stars and will potentially be one of the top power forwards in the league while Little Timmy wasn't even offered a contract by the Jets.
No better example on how different the leagues are. Kane is a North-South balls to the wall net crasher with great speed, great shot but borderline hockey IQ.
Little Timmy is the size of a bantom player, plays on the edges, excels with an East-West circling game and has an above average hockey IQ.
So is this like say the NHL is for big, dumb hulking jocks and the KHL is for the thinking man?
I'm not a huge Kane guys so I'm not trying to be a homer or make excuses. I think a lot of these guys are just trying to stay in game shape and avoid getting injured. Obviously guys playing in their home countries have got something to play for but the others, not so much. Just my opinion.

I heard Kane wasn't being given much ice time to even try to adapt and not exactly welcomed by the coaching staff/players.
Could that be a reason why he didn't adapt or is that just an excuse?
Excuse. I saw one of his games and he just didn't look like he belonged on the ice. -8 in 12 games is pretty indicative of just how useless he was out there. I don't think Kane thinks the game through very well. Amazing that a player like him was completely unable to adjust to a different ice surface.
I'd chalk this one up as: a young kid who was looking to follow the trend of his peers, but was in no way motivated to actually play hard. Cant blame him I guess, why risk injury. The KHL is tossing big contracts at these young kids to make the jump during CBA negotiations, why not take the money & coast so as you dont hurt yourself?
While maybe he is just bad on the big ice surface in Russia, there could be other reasons too. Culture is vastly different, its not like he knows people on his team like he did in Winnipeg
i think it's funny that culture shock, home sickness, different playing styles, etc. are perfectly good excuses for NA players in europe but not european players in NA.
Is the KHL that different to the NHL because let's face it, at the end of it's still ice hockey. Shame he couldn't play well there but do you suspect that homesickness played it's part and that he could play for the AHL affiliate instead?
