maybe not quite to the same level especially since it's not a prime topic on things like sports radio, but usually there's a whole lot of baseball apathy here, and for once they're actually talking Blue Jays, so it's a lot more than I'm used to.

Nobody knows what baseball is in the west. How I wish there was a baseball team for Vancouver.

I am from Toronto but am currently going to school in Edmonton. I can say that there are a ton of baseball fans here and the buzz is definitely existent regarding these trades and this team

Listen to Keith Law destroy Jim Tracy around 23 minute mark. Baffled as to why Jays or any team would be interested in him.
Jim Tracy would make a horrible manager for the Blue Jays. Fortunately, I do not think that Alex Anthopoulos will hire a dinosaur to manage this team, Alex is an open minded and progressive executive.

He won't care about value but we should/do. I suppose regardless he's an upgrade on Lind. His AVG is just pretty bad (aside from 2011).

Thing is, from a first baseman you'd like 30 homeruns and a 280+ AVG. But like I said, I suppose it's an upgrade over Lind regardless so still makes us better. Definitely provides the power.

It really depends on how much he asks for I suppose.

For the love of god don't hire Tracy. I'm glad most here realize what a horrible choice he'd be. I'd prefer Acta and am a bit shocked he's not getting consideration. He's a new-school manager who plays into the Sabre numbers and wouldn't make Miggy Cabrera bunt. Yes, that has happened.

That is definitely true from a baseball traditionalist aspect, it doesn't have to be true for every team. The idea of a 1B that dominates offensively is mostly based on a model where the team gets very little power from CF/SS/2B/C. The principle is that those four spots is where you need strong defence, and usually strong defensive players don't bring big hitting power. In THAT model, then yes corner OFers and corner IFers need to mash to make up for the deficiencies up the model.

I think the Jays have more balance of power/hitting through their position players. Not many teams can squeeze 20 HRs out of both the Catcher and CF positions. Additionally, we have both Encarnacion and Bautista who are both threats to lead the league in HRs. Last year Jays were 6th in HRs, and that's with Lind only chipping in 11.

I don't believe that we necessarily NEED an upgrade at 1B. If one presents itself, then by all means we can jump on it. But I don't think we should move MORE prospects or a pitcher to acquire one. If it's coming through Free Agency, then sure. Otherwise, let's see what our team can do with roughly the same power as last season, but with better OBP and ERA.

Anthony Gose had a 0.4 WAR this past year? Wow, did not expect that. ( I expected it would be lower).

Yes. Hopefully this will turn out better than last time when Riccardi signed Burnett and Ryan and traded for Glaus.

Just seems like a shocking turnabout for them. Maybe there's hope they'll be aggressive with the Leafs too. Just seems very out of character for them.

Yes, the time is right. Bautista and EE would be wasting their prime if we don't go now.

Surprised Gose and D'Arnaud were not part of that deal. I wish we could have went all in and grabbed Stanton too but that's just greedy

Nobody has suggested he is not getting considered. Yesterday's rumour was that Tracy and Riggleman were two finalists (as opposed to THE two finalists), which itself would not exclude anyone else. Then we heard shortly afterwards (from Riggleman's agent, IIRC) that Riggleman hasn't even been contacted, and that pretty much tells us that we know nothing yet about who is or is not on Anthopolous' list, except his oft-repeated claim that he wants someone with previous managing experience at the MLB level.

So Acta's still very much in the conversation until we hear something definitive that suggests otherwise.

If he can hit around .300 and hit 15 homers it will be a good year.

Also, you live in NYC, I'm sure there are a hell of a lot of people that you can get roids off if you want them. Talk to A-Rod.

Too bad they couldn't have had such a push with Doc in the rotation.

But Bautista and EE weren't here. The thing is, ticket sales were a lot higher last year weren't they? Could be a big reason.

Pipe dream but I wish we'd go hard after Greinke. Our pitching would be filthy.

There's also a big TV contract coming in for all baseball teams next year.

Sure. I'm just wishing a push could have happened with Doc around. Guy deserved so much more than he got.

He has a World Series ring now. I'm sure he's happy in Philly.

That being said, if the Jays are in a playoff spot come the trade deadline and Philly is sputtering I wouldn't be surprised if AA pushed for Halladay. Would be incredible if he was around for a post-season appearance.
