I can confirm this. Goaltending wins championships would be a more suitable hockey adage.

Can be applied to any sports not just football. Its really evident in Hockey though. We as Sens fans should know this first hand losing to the Ducks

Except when it's not.

At times defense wins championships. At times offense wins them. At times (rare) goaltending wins them.

The winning teams share one quality - they are all very good. You can't be terrible at anything. Unless you depend primarily on goaltending, in which case... maybe. But Hasek still lost with Buffalo.

Anaheim was 8th in league scoring that season tied for 2nd in PP% and 4th in G/G through the playoffs. Their PK% in the playoffs was ranked 8th, which should have done them in given they lead the times Shorthanded stat by a landside.

You don't think maybe a balance of Offence and Defence is why they won?

Out 6-8 months as per Twitter.

The Senators confirmed that Jared Cowen underwent successful hip surgery today. Timetable for recovery pegged at 6 - 8 months.

A team starting fresh full of new roster players will always build from the net out (in the NHL) hence making defenceman more valuable to a cup winning team than forwards are.

Cowen more important to the team then norris winning Karlsson? Is Cowen going to become Bobby Orr of all of a sudden?

Hey Sens fans, figured I'd offer some insight on his surgery because I just recently had the same surgery. Basically the doctors just stitched up his labrum, and maybe shaved part of the bone off that was causing it to tear. Recovery is quick, I was off crutches in 5 days, and walking fine after 2 weeks. The 6-8 month recovery timetable is essentially how long he will have pain for, not necessarily his timetable for return. I had my surgery October 2nd, and my doctor told me I could return to Hockey in February, if I can play through the pain. Once Cowen gets past his 6-8 months, his hip will be as good as new, unless they didn't do anything about the part of the bone that tore it in the first place. One problem may be that this is likely to happen in both hips however.

I expect his recovery to be much closer to the 6 months than the 8. Maybe even shorter than that. Hope I cleared some things up for you guys and didn't cause any more worry.

Thanks a lot, that was very informative and comforting! I would imagine that his recovery time will be further aided by the fact that he is an elite athlete, and that he certainly should be good to go the start of next season. Cheers, and here's hoping for a rapid improvement for the Jackets!

Why so sarcastic? I would bring him back and play him in the nhl for 6 games so he can hit 1000 then send him back down/trade him.

With the season starting soon, do we have any updates on his recovery?

I was hoping maybe he would make it back by play-offs, I know they said season ending but that was before they knew about NHL coming back.

Anyone know how much this recovery time takes?

If all it takes is 68 moths, we should be in good shape. I think PetSmart sells them for lizard food.
