Who would you offer for this package from the St. Louis Blues?
The Blues are looking for a top pairing defenseman to pair with Pietrangelo, preferably a LHD upgrade on Barret Jackman/with more potential than Ian Cole; and/or a center upgrade on Patrik Berglund and/or potentially/hopefully David Backes.
The Blues are specifically looking to upgrade in this situation. Not looking for futures, or a large number of parts in return. Simply wondering what a few semi-expendable assets are worth.
What do you have to offer?

I can't think of any players that would merit such a big package that would be deemed expendable for futures by their teams. Maybe if you watered the package down a bit Jaybo might be a good fit?
I don't see a scenario where a top pairing defenseman is available for pieces like that. Maybe something will shake loose when the CBA is signed, but I don't see it at the moment.
Any team willing to part with a #1 center or a #2 defenseman for quantity potential has to be rebuilding or desperate to shed salary or both.
I really don't know which teams those are. Of teams who were low in the standings, Montreal just cannot afford to part with Plekanec or Galchenyuk. A year of Getzlaf from Anaheim is stupid. Probably the only center who could be available and worthwhile is Krejci if Boston decides to go with Seguin at center.
As for defense, I think the Rangers could be the only team who might have talent to spare. Unfortunately, you'd have to shore up their right side with Polak if you have a hope to get one of their top lefties.
The Blues are better off giving Stewart the opportunity to rebound, letting Rattie develop, and seeing what the defense looks like with Cole as a regular instead of being yanked in and out of the lineup. He's young and inconsistent, but he has shown he can be a legitimate NHLer.
It will be really hard for the return you are requiring after the CBA is signed. If you prop up this trade the following season when teams have to comply with the new cap you'll find it a bit easier.

Alright. I do wonder what sort of "top-pairing, LHD upgrade on Barret Jackman/with more potential than Ian Cole" defensemen Blues fans would have in mind for that package. Anyone care to cite an example or two?
If they're definitively better than Orpik, I have a hard time believing they'd be available.

Your avatar is so much awesome it broke my awesome metre
I don't see why people are saying this package is awesome, unless that 1st round pick is a top 5 pick. Stewart has butt loads of talent, but he's Rene Bourque 2.0 IMO. This would be a package for Michalek, Wheeler calibre players.
