He's 17, so no. MacKinnon will be this years underager for HC... Too bad they don't change their ways (I'm not getting my hopes up that they'll change this years camp) and see that Drouin has all the skill to be there....
Really? I had a perfect angle of the tunnel and it looked like he swung his stick backm but didn't follow through in brrking it.... Maybe i saw wrong....
I'd be pretty pissed too with that clueless display by the refs in the 2nd lol.
No, you saw right. They showed that part on tv, but after he turns the corner and walked maybe 10 steps, he smashed the stick against what looked like the corner of a wall.
If he got an invite I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he was the best player at camp, forcing HC's hand in bringing him along.
If there's any year to bring in a high amount of underagers, it's this year. Monahan also deserves consideration, as does Shinkaruk IMO.
I agree though I don't consider Monahan and Shinkaruk as underagers since they're technically 18. I do think Reinhart should be worth a look and maybe even Fucale (though I wouldn't put either one on the team).
I think he should be given the invite to camp and let him earn his spot, if he wins it fair and square, then super. But I'm betting he has a great camp and HC will come up with some meatball excuse, i.e. it's a numbers game, it's a tourny for 19 year old players and a whole long list of BS excuses HC uses to justify their age trumps skill philosophy.
4pts in one Subway super series game should get him a spot???
If that is not enough maby they will have to consider he is Leading the CHL in Points per game.
They're nuts if they don't at least seriously consider him. Four points against a very good Russian team says it all. He's very skilled and playing with a ton of confidence, and if you're taking MacKinnon (which they will,) it has to be a package deal. Throw Huberdeau on the right side and watch out.
I'm wondering what the excuse will be... Will they come right out and say "he's 17, he's not ready"... Or maybe a "he hasn't proven enough" circa MacKinnon 2011 lol...
It's also fully possible he could have a bad camp, or be physically outworked by 19 year olds which I think would be the biggest concern for him if he played in the WJC's.... He's very physically mature for his age playing against the top 19/20 yos in the Q every night, but this is the BEST D from around the world... Maybe he'll need to show more two-way ability.... Again, I'm not holding out hope that he will be on the team.. An invite for sure though.
That made me laugh. If Drouin were able to actually skate i could see that happen in best case scenario.
Skating can always be improved. If he is over 2 PPG with average to slightly above average skating, how good can he be if he improved it like Parise did.
Drouin with 2 goals after two periods this afternoon. Another strong showing by the kid. Mckinnon has 1 assist so far. Mantha from Val-D'or is on the scoreboard too with one helper. Erne, Duclair and Sorenson all have 1 point this afternoon so far for Quebec who plays against Victoriaville.
