Niederreiter vs. Baertschi

Who comes out to be more successful at the NHL level?

Sorry in advance if a thread has already been made on this, did a quick search and couldn't find anything

nino got rushed to the NHL and it was not good for him scoring 1 goal in 55 games (playing with 4th liners)

he can still recover from that if the islanders send him down to the AHL for a season or two but i doubt they do which makes me say baertschi will have a better career

Nino was rushed, let me make that clear. That being said, Baertschi. I was never THAT crazy about Niederreiter to begin with, and Baertschi showed me a ton in the past year. Very smart, very skilled.

Baertschi. However I haven't lost complete faith in Nino, and he still has a ton of time to turn it around, and make a case for himself. But Baertschi is defiantly looking a lot better as of right now.

Not looking so good for Nino. Hopefully he can bounce back for the Isles

I was impressed by Baertschi when I went to the WJC's in Buffalo a couple of years ago. I'll say Baertschi for now, especially considering the rookie season Nino just had, but I'm certainly not giving up on Nino and hopefully the Isles do the right thing and send the kid to the AHL for the year.

They play two different styles, somewhat hard to compare. Nino is bigger and nastier and plays a power forward game. It's a shame he was drafted by such a screw-up of a hockey team. Hopefully he makes it in spite of Wang's stupidity/Snow's ineptness.

But I'd say Baertschi for now and Nino for the future.

Isles have more or less ruined another good prospect. So Baertschi.

Nino actually looked pretty good before his injury. He was creating offense, playing physical, constantly around the puck. He didn't look like a 19 year old kid.

That said, after he came back from his injury he just looked overwhelmed. Honestly though, it looked like he started to come around towards the end of the season. The only problem was he was stuck on the 4th line, so the opportunity for points wasn't really ideal.

Would I have liked to see him put in a few more than he did? Obviously yes. But I'm not going to say he's "ruined" because he didn't put up any points as a 19 year old 4th liner on a bottom-5 team.

Most Isles fans will probably disagree with this, but I expect him to start the season on the big club, playing on the 3rd line with Nielsen and Grabner. I'm pretty confident that he'll have a productive year if placed with those two.

Why is Nino "ruined"? Can he not develop in the AHL? Is his confidence all gone?

He isn't ruined, just hasn't been used properly. This poll could have been a whole different story if Nino had played in Portland to develop last year with Bartschi.

I could only imagine that Nino took a hit to his confidence after playing with the Isles last year. I think it would be good for him to have some time in the AHL to regain his confidence next season.

Let's state the obvious: Niederreiter had an awful, awful rookie season. Statistically, it was probably the worst rookie season any player has had in recent memory, excluding goons. He was clearly over matched and should not have been in the NHL last year.

However, it's one season. To say he's a bust or he's ruined after one season is silly. If Nino's still producing 1 point per year when he's in his mid-twenties, then we can come back to this discussion about being ruined or being a bust. But he's still way too young to start calling him a bust or saying he's ruined already.

Baertschi. I get the feeling Niederreiter's development was ruined and he won't develop properly.

Niederreiter is bouncing back! Better than Baertschi in the AHL scoring right now.

Nino: 14 gp 9 g 8 a 17 p
Sven: 15 gp 6 g 8 a 14 p.

So, Niederreiter seems to be the better one now and probably also in the NHL-.

Niederreiter just turned 20. It's a little early to call him a bust, especially when he's third in AHL scoring right now.

I think it's funny how you always complain about sample sizes and then make a claim like this.

Sven has as many points in 5 NHL games as Nino has in 64.

Glad to hear Niederreiter is playing well in the AHL, kid definitely should've gone back to Portland last season.

You can't use a 5 game sample size that's way to small his sample size is 3 times as big so he must be right.

Nino is looking great in the AHL playing in a top six role and is healthy. For all of you saying Sven because of Nino's rookie year, then you are making a mistake. If you like Sven better then that is fine.

In Nino's rookie year, he got injured twice. One being a nagging groin and the other one being a concussion. When he returned, he did not look like himself and therefore was demoted to the 4th line and was scratched frequently. On the fourth line he played with grinders who got less than ten minutes a night, probaby less than that. When he's been in the AHL or training camp, he has played a top six role with skilled players and has looked like the power foward that we thought we were getting when we drafted him 5th overall back in '10.

Nino has a high motor, finishes his checks, and goes to the net with that big body of his. I think if we were to compare primes of Sven and Nino, I think you would see that Sven would statistically have more points because yes, he is that offensively talented, but I think Nino is going to have more of a physical impact of the ice, which is something we need on the Islanders.

Sven=Nino

I agree with this. I think Nino will bounce back and I hope he does, I'm a fan. Still give the slight edge to Baertschi though.
