Giordano would probably be a 1st + Rattie, but I seriously doubt the Flames would be looking to give up a prime aged defender & future captain without overpayment.
They should let his value build and deal him at the deadline, and it would be silly for them to keep him around just to be their captain as they are rebuilding (if that if what you meant by the future captain statement).
If the CBA allows teams to take some real money in player trades then Jay Bouwmeester would absolutely be the player to target for the blues as the partner for Petro. Rumor at the draft was the blues were trying to trade Dags+first for him. I think theres already 2 maybe 3 threads from around that time that started or ended as meester to the blues though.
The Blues are not in win now mode we still have a young team no need to blow all of our prospects for a run like we have in the past it has never worked out for us in the past we can afford to be patient.
Of course the Blues are in a compete now but not in a sell off all of our prospects for a cup run mode like an aging team would be.
Personally I see the blues in the same spot Vancouver was in 2-3 years ago. Cup Contenders but have a decent 5 year window to get the job done
This would defeat the purpose of trading for Gio and Iggy... They won't want to lose Berglund down the middle... They would aquire the pieces from Calgary to win a cup, and they would need Berglund for that.
If..... it were to go down, I could see something like this:
2nd 2013 (conditional on Iggy resigning or Blues making it to the WCF)
Adding these two components to the Blues would make them a favorite to win their first stanley cup. Adds skill, scoring, and grit for the playoffs.
