Although I really like Gio, I think the Blues should look at the Alzner deal, that sounds enticing

The Orpik deal sounds interesting as well, in that we wouldn't have to give up nearly as much to get a solid defensive player

What was the Alzner deal?

Alzner would be great but the cost will be high.

If Calgary can get anything near that kinda value for Gio they should take that deal. That's the kind of move that doesn't kill your chance to compete now while massively speeding up the inevitable rebuild that's looming over their heads. Rattie+ would be great for both sides IMO.

Flames would reluctantly accept, would hurt bad losing Gio but I feel this would match or beat other offers. Blues keep their top prospects and get a great defenseman for years to come. The Flames get great return and jump start the rebuild on the fly, while keeping Iggy. Stings for both sides but addresses both teams needs.

Pointless thread. Highly doubt this package is even available from the Blues.

Would Andrei Markov get us Rattie + 1st? Maybe Rattie + 2nd? I know it isn't the potential the OP is looking for but it may fit just as well.

With his salary and injury issues Markov wont net much more then draft picks.

He's 6'6" and he has decent set of hands. He could develop into a 3rd/4th line grinder who'll protect our star players.

But he'll almost certainly become nothing, never mind that we can always sign bottom 6 scrappers for cheap. It's a useless throw-in, IMO.

Ill add to this that Rattie has shown phenomenal chemistry with Bartschi in the past.

I think Cole+Rattie+1st would be a very fair deal for both sides.

I don't want what would need to be paid to get him assuming he's signed long term. You would almost certainly ask for Oshie.

Besides much like DET, CHI, and NAS, a trade with VAN is very unlikely to happen with the Blues.

If I were the Blues' GM I wouldn't be including Rattie in a trade package right now, especially one that's bringing back a 35 yr old, huge contract player as arguably its central piece.
I don't get the 'B-prospect' tag either -- he's better than that.
Yes, you have to give up value to get value, but the current crop of forward prospects -- Tarasenko, Schwartz, Rattie, Jaskin -- should be a big part of the team's near future. Their development too is all the more important because the Blues are not likely to have early draft picks for some years.

If they're definitively better than Orpik, I have a hard time believing they'd be available.
Don't take the "nope" of one Blues fan as an indication of how we all feel...

I love Rattie as a prospect, but I'd trade him and Stewart for Orpik and a pick from Pittsburgh right now. I've wanted to see Brooks Orpik in the Bluenote for a long time.

I'd ask for another first, or take out Rattie and put in Schwartz (probably still isn't enough). Right now, with all the Blues fans immediately saying yes, you can tell how one-sided and awful the deal is for the Flames.
Rattie a "B-level prospect..."

Ask your wunderkind Sven Baertschi if Rattie's a "B-level" player.

I'm in the minority as a Pens fan, but I think Brooks is gone after his contract runs out. Bortuzzo and Dumoulin in addition to Engelland can help replace him in the near future, especially if Brooks is done as a top pairing guy for us. I think he still has some good years left in him, especially under Hitch if he were traded. Having Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo paired with gritty vets like Orpik and Jackman would be enticing for the Blues Id imagine, and they can let Cole develop in the meantime.

Id do Orpik for Stewart+ easily. But it depends how soon our youth on D is ready to step in. And if Martin re-establishes himself as a top pairing guy.
