In all fairness through two games of the Canada Russia series he has been the second best player out there from his draft year. It was a really good pick by the Leafs (as much as i hate to admit) Reilly like Cowen dropped in his draft year due to a knee injury. Very different types of players however both have very high ceilings.

I hope Cowen continues on this development curve, comes in and solidifies himself as a reliable top 3/4 d man. If he can consistently log over 20 minutes a night playing a shut down role and blasting that big shot on the 2nd pp thats a huge win for the sens. Such a young player playing a style and position that generally takes a longer time to develop.

I will admit I should eat crow with Cowen I judged him too quickly and was critical of the pick the more you watch him the more he grows on you. You can see the big time potential, hopefully like all young D men he can stay consistent. Hence why sens fans dont want to trade him and even though he hasnt proved a ton at the NHL level his track record at every level he has played at has been very good, he's a winner. Won a mem cup and last year logged top 2 minutes on a calder cup team at 20 years old, thats impressive.

I can see why the Sens wouldn't want to trade Cowen but come on.
Cowen and generational talent in the same sentence is a complete joke.
This is not meant for those Sen fans that know better.

Just curious, but does anyone know if the hip injury is in the same leg that he suffered the knee injury in during his draft year?

If I had to guess, it would say the opposite leg.. after I've check,

...to repair a torn labrum in his left hip

and ...will undergo reconstructive surgery on his right knee,

your quoting a leafs fan.

Also Cowen is beast , you don't trade players like this unless you get an over payment.

An overpayment would be a late first at this point. Too injury prone to have real value.

But there's absolutely no point in making that deal, seeing as how Cowen fills such a specific need for this club when healthy, and when healthy is worth WAY more than a late 1st.

If the best offer was a 25-30th overall pick, the Sens would be much better off hoping he can stay healthy. Upside is worth so much more than that proposed return.

Never sell low, unless you absolutely have to (ie: relationship between team and player soured to point of no return, player has no hope of raising his trade value, player is redundant and has run out of chances with org, you are about to lose the player in an expansion draft, etc...)

Do you really think he'll be #1 calibre for more 10 years? Really?

At any rate, he'll be stuck behind Lehner, so even if he's capable of being a #1, he wouldn't be in Ottawa.

Well, you did post this gem like an hour ago in another thread on these boards:

Wouldn't trade a 7th rounder to rent Robidas for the year... because we drafted an as-yet completely unproven defenceman with a 7th rounder in a past draft. I guess that qualifies as "most recent" crazy post, but I doubt it's the craziest.

So yeah. I dunno, I'll look through your post history later, if I'm bored. I'll dig up a few doozeys.

Calling Peter Regin Zetterberg lite, just with "slightly" less offense ranks up there.

Ottoman said it well... half the offense and 3/4 the defense. I agree with that

Yeah...Regin should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Zetterberg, sorry bud. They are not even close to being comparable players.

One more year of MAK and there will be a New York Times bestseller in the comedy section.

I will give you that. Credit where credit is due. A trade thread with MAK involved is a much spicier meatball.

No. Are you? At least I don't go running around trying to compare guys like Regin to Zetterberg. Or trying to be "entertaining" Btw, if that's your goal, and you really don't care if people take you seriously or not, your doing a great job.

I wouldn't fret, I've never come across a single thing MAK has even slightly retracted, when MAK says something, you must take it as the golden truth.

Trading Cowen is like trading Karlsson, we have absolutely no one else who can play their game.

as i said to sens fans on our board, nothing to worry about.

yes, it's an injury, and it sucks. That said, it's not a repetitive injury, and at this point it doesnt look like there's even going to be an NHL season. Long term, there's no reason to worry about cowen yet.

(also, sens guys and avs 44, stay on topic.)
