I want to buy Galaxy Note 2 but every time I go to a store (Rogers or Videotron), they refuse to sell it to me because I have to be a customer of that company (even though I am willing to pay full price ...weird).
Where can I buy a Note 2 that is locked or unlocked for full purchase price so I can use it with Fido?
I don't want to buy something like this off Kijjiji, Ebay or someone online.
Go to a Videotron mobile store. They will sell it to you full price. Locked. Other big companies would not because they want to keep it for the customers that will buy a 3 year contract.
You're better off ordering it on Ebay or online if you can't find it here in store. Most store will order it online or on ebay and takes a commission so you will end up having to pay more. Kijiji is always the best way to find a cheap new phone. No shipping, no tax. Just make sure the cell is unlocked and sealed in box.
Reason why phone company doesn't want to sell you the cell is because they don't make much profit when they sell you a phone. They make their profit with the monthly plan. So no reason for them to sell a phone with minimal profit so you can use it with another company.
With the new Bill60, there's no more insane cancellation fees when you terminate your contract with any provider..
What I suggest you to do, is go to Telus, Bell, Rogers.. whichever provider, take up a 3 years contract with the lowest plan possible ( 50$ plan ) and then cancel it with Customer Service after 30 days ( if you try and cancel it before that, customer service will tell you to return it to the reseller who wrote up your contract ).
You'll be able to keep your phone, the "cancellation fee" will only be the rebate you got on your phone. There's no activation fees with every provider right now so basicly, the only addtional fees ( besides the full price of the phone ) you'll have to pay is the first month of service.
My cousin works for this company, their plan is to open up in Canada very soon. My cousin moved from the US to Canada a couple of months ago and he said within the next year at least, they should be starting up here.

technically incorrect, you can buy the phone with a company like rogers, void their buyers remorse policy by talking for more than 30 minutes on the device(unreturnable) and cancel, no 30 days to pay for.

You might have to pay the full price of the device though, which will be guaranteed to be higher than anywhere else. When you get a device on a 3 years contract, its price is usually less because of the contract money.
I bought 3 unlocked phones so far. All were good experiences. A blackberry 9000 from cellphoneforever on ebay, an HTC on tigerdirect.ca and a nokia on newegg.ca I can't refer you to any montreal shops tho.
