I have given up all hopes on Rajala to become an NHLer. Maybe he'll play in the ECHL for the rest of his career and get a couple of call ups to the AHL.

Just another guy who failed to live up to the hype.

Not very surprising given his size.

He has zero chance of every playing in more than a handfull of NHL games IMO.

What, did your crystal ball tell you that? Last time I checked Alex Burrows spent his first season in the ECHL at age....omg, 21. That's the same age as Rajala right now. Some guys take longer to get there, and just because he's small doesn't mean he won't.

Was Toni Rajala the steal of the draft?

By size I'm assuming you mean weight? Since there's much shorter guys than him making a living in the NHL, he's the same height as Patrick Kane.

perhaps, along with Tobias Rieder in another draft. they both may be a bit on the small side, but i'd like to give both a chance with the Oilers before we all write them off.

I was joking, referencing another thread. Tobias Rieder may have a decent shot since hes a good 2 way player. I dont think Rajala will ever see a minute in the NHL but if he does good for him.

Is he really still the same size as when he was drafted? 5'10 163 lbs?

interesting thread to go back and read...

Rajala makes his AHL debut today. Was called up to the OKC Barons after Pitlick was injured.

He's ripping up the ECHL so he's going to get a shot in the A.

Reading this thread you would think he'd be a 100 point player in the NHL by now

Seems like he hasn't grown what so ever since he was drafted.

Hockeydb has him at 5'9" 154lbs so im guessing 5'10" 163lbs is pretty accurate.

Rajala scores in his first AHL game on a play that should've been offside but he made it count.

no you are right it's not just because he is small but he is way behind on the development curve at this point.

He is not even a top 6 forward on Oklahoma City, do you really see room for him on Edmontons top 6?

Because he isn't going to make it as a 3rd or 4th line guy like Burrows did.

IMO he see less than a handfull of NHL games if he ever plays.

The odds are against him making it in Edmonton with smaller wingers like Eberle, Yakupov, and Hemsky already ahead of him. That said if he looks like a potential top 6 winger some team will try to acquire him via trade and that'd be fine with me. I missed the last game so I'm looking forward to seeing him today.

The kid seems to be doing decently as a rookie in the AHL. Does anyone have any info on this guy. It seems like he has his size working against him to make it to the big leagues.

Yeah, he has had a good season in the ECHL and AHL, but the knock on him has always been that he wont hold up in the NHL. Unspectacular seasons from 2009-2012 makes me think that he is still a long shot to be a consistent NHLer, as much as I like seeing small players prove the haters wrong. In the years leading up to the draft, he was a highly touted player but fell on draft day.

I really like Rajala, wanted Calgary to pick him up. He is definitely a project and I see his situation much like Loknitov's. The guy is a smaller version of Huselius.
