9:30AM? Geezaloo. Guess I'm going to have to tell my boss I got better things to do at that time than pay attention to what he has to say.

My thoughts on JPA: for now, try to keep him unless you get a pretty solid offer (prefer starting pitcher). I think TDA is our future catcher but for now, I think its better TDA starts out in the minors and comes up after super 2 cutoff date. Jays pretty much delay TDA FA by a year and keep the cost down over the years -- that's important because you want to keep cost down as much as possible to make up for Reyes and Buehrle backloaded contracts. And lets face it, insurance doesn't hurt. It allows Jays to use JPA for whatever they may need to upgrade mid-season.

I would try to dump Buck somewhere if you can eat some salary and maybe get a half decent piece and roll with JPA/Wilson. If not, DFA Wilson and go with JPA/Buck.

Fielding% is a horrible statistic to rate defense, as are passed balls, they incorporate errors, and are terribly subjective.

You also neglected to mention pitch framing, which is perhaps the most important defensive duty for catchers, and it is here that J.P. Arencibia is below average.

I really hope we can find a way to get Morneau to Toronto. It'd be amazing to have him split time between DH and 1st base with EE and he'd add a reliable left bat into the lineup. What would it take to get him? Lind + prospect? He'd be a perfect #5 hitter on this team.

From what we're hearing it sounds like Buck or JPA will be traded to Texas. I'd like to see Buck moved and keep JP. The guy just loved Toronto and the organization and I think most fans would like to see him win in Toronto. Move Buck + to Texas for Ogando and bolster the pitching on this team even more!

I was skeptical of Rogers, but they're really putting their money where their mouth is. If they (and of course AA + Minny/Texas + the FA would also need to be in agreement) allow AA to acquire Marcum, Morneau and Ogando I think the Jays would have the deepest roster in baseball. I don't think he'll be getting into any bidding wars in free agency, but he can really clean up in trades.

All three almost certainly won't happen, but acquiring one or two is a possibility.

Imagine this roster:

1. Johnson
2. Marcum
3. Morrow
4. Buehrle
5. Romero

Bullpen: Ogando, Happ, Lincoln, Cecil, Delabar, Rogers, Wade, Santos, Perez, Loup, Janssen, McGowan, Oliver.

1. Reyes
2. Cabrera
3. Bautista
4. Encarnacion
5. Morneau
6. Lawrie
7. Rasmus
8. Arencibia
9. Izturis

Bench: Bonefacio, Davis, D'Arnaud, Mccoy

Of course a few guys would have to go, but wow!

Going from Ricky Ro as our #1 to having him as our #4 in one off-season, is pretty freaking sweet.

I have a feeling they'd let Morrow start opening day. With that said:

Morrow
JJ
Buerle
Romero
Happ/other

If they want Johnson to stay here, they start him opening night and let him see the turn out we get on opening night.

Before I ask my question--remember I am here in England and we do no get much Baseball talk here

What happened to the young studs on the mound that the Jays were talking about last off season--lead by Kyle Drabek and a few other guys. are the all busts or just being tossed onto the farm for awhile? I like this trade for the jays, but I know for awhile there was talk the jays had some very good pitchers coming up

Drabek and Hutchison got hurt, needed surgery and will be out until near the end of this year at the least, and the start of 2014 at the earliest.

Alvarez was traded to Miami (I still want to call them Florida), as was Nicolino

and the rest (Syndergaard, Sanchez, Osuna, etc) are all still working their way through the system (right on track)

The prospect pipeline is still working just as it should be.

Not saying I wouldn't start him on opening night, but he could see the turn out just fine from the bench...

Most of the highly regarded pitching talent in the jays organization is in the low-minors, and won't really make an impact until 2014 at the earliest. Drabek and Drew Hutchison, the two highest regarded "prospects" who pitched last year are both injured and out until around August. Alvarez was another of the young "studs" who was here last year, and he was part of the deal with the Marlins. We've got a couple guys who are kind of highly regarded in John Stilson and Sean Nolin starting out in Double-A who might pitch in Toronto this year, but otherwise, for the most part, none of the other young pitchers we see this year will be too highly regarded in terms of potential.

Drabek and Hutchison (the main other guy) got injured and had to have tommy john surgery. Both are out until mid to late season.

Well...it would be very Toronto-like to balance an amazing trade with an odd choice of manager signing.
