Gregor Chisholm ‏@gregorMLB

According to @elliottbaseball the #BlueJays will announce John Gibbons as their new manager in less than nine hours.

Umm wow. Okay. I am fine with that.

Haha this team is going to be amazing to watch.

O/U on how many games before Lawrie and Gibbons get into a fight?

Ill say this. I'd rather Gibbons then Wakamatsu!

I guess AA wanted to balance things out. Really wants to test that trust he gained with that massive trade and signing.

I actually laughed out loud when I heard it.

Then I realized it wasn't a joke.

Now I'm not sure what to think.

This has to be fake. It has to be. Gibbons was the worst manager in Blue Jays history that I care to remember. The worst.

We all know about the fighting he had with his players but does anyone remember how bad he was at managing the bullpen? His favoritism of Scott Schoewenweiss? The boneheaded moves he'd make keeping pitchers in too long, or pulling them when they were on fire? Was it Marcum that got yanked from a no-hitter because he was on a pitch count? There were so many instances of poor pitcher management

Or he wanted to hire a hardass who hes familiar with. I guess that quote he said about a guy getting a 2nd chance rings true.

How do you suggest he would keep the locker room in order? It completely collapsed under his previous reign.

Gibbons reminds me of the types of coaches when I used to play against teams from the USA in tournaments. Such a hard ass

so far all legit media reports are piggybacking off elliott - who announced it around half an hour ago.

earliest tweet was actually 7 hours ago from some blogger: https://twitter.com/CowboysNation87/...50253307428864

Jays hire John Gibbons as their new manager

personally, i'm going to try to keep calm and say that nothing is known until it is officially announced.
i may end up looking like carl rove on that though.

He wasn't running the show when Gibbons was here, was he? I thought that Gibbons and Tosca were under Ricciardi.

Wasnt he the Asst GM?

Even if not, Im sure he knows Gibbons well seeing he was Ricciardi's roommate in college and AA worked under Ricciardi.

Not too happy about this. We need an experience manager. Gibbons is a hot head.

I dunno, I think its kinda good there is going to be a hardass manager. I know I was certainly tired of Lawrie pig headed baserunning and Farrell, putting a hand on his shoulder trying to explain it to him certainly didn't work.

He'll platoon players which umm, this team so needs. I hope I don't get to see Lind and Rasmus bat against a lefty much, if at all next season.

Well let's just hope this doesn't backfire.

There is such a thing as overkill. Fine to have more firmness after last year. But no good if it goes too far in the other direction.

This is a great chance for the Jays. Hate to see the wrong manager signing ruin that.

He has over 600 games of managerial experience. So he does meet that criteria.
