Good guy. He's past his prime anyway. Enjoy retirement. Especially if he had injuries, might as well move on.

Maybe he will have more time to flap his gums about the organization, he obviously gave up on hockey long ago.

I always liked the man and the player, never got the hate. No need to take a shot at the guy.

I figured that's why he didn't want to play hockey anymore, he was having too much fun not having to play hockey, eating his way to the buffets. To even imagine to lose some of that access baggage must have been hard to comtemplate for him.

But he gave his heart out for us.

willing to bet the people slamming him here can't skate as well forwards as Jaro can backwards.

Naaa he's big boned!

The guy had trouble breathing some of the time when he played for us. I don't remember wich Habs player said this a couple of years ago, "our two big Czechs(Spacek and Hammer) were pumping gaz all night but we managed to win the game".

He was definitely out of shape on the second year of his contract.

Even as a hardcore habs fan I have nothing good to say about the organization in the Pierre Gauthier/Jacques Martin era.

I didn't like the comments, but he's damn right.

So you are suggesting some of us can't skate as well as an NHL'er in one direction? You really got us there, any other zingers?

Great guy, his HabsTV answers were legendary. Wasn't great to say the least at the end of his Habs career, but he took his hits for the team, played with effort and he had his moments.

Hope the Space Goat enjoys retirement.

Here's to spacegoat. **** the haters. Anybody that retires from an NHL career at 38-however old he is, deserves respect.

A significant part of the Czech Olympic Gold Medal team in Nagano, a key cog in the Oilers Stanley Cup run of 2006, and a good fundamental gap controlling defenseman who formed a pretty efficient duo with Hammer in Montreal, against stellar competition. Seemed like a good role model with a sense of humour. I think he played an honest hard working game and earned his ice packs over a solid career.
