looking like it's gonna be a rematch of the 2006 world series.

Yes clearly the guy who teaches them that homeruns are the be all, end all isn't part of the problem

I had hope going into next year too. Cashman already ruined most of it in about 30 seconds

looks like i was wrong about the cardinals getting to the world series. giants are dominating them again in game 7. 6-0 in the 3rd inning. should be a good world series between detroit and sanfran but i think the tigers will win it in 5 or 6.

My god, come on, Detroit!

I never understood how bunts like that are called hits instead of an error.

thats what you pretty much call a perfect bunt. it hugs so close to the line you just assume its gonna go foul but it just keeps hugging that line till it stops. its a very tough decision to make if your the 3rd baseman cause even if you do grab it as its hugging the line that would be a tough play to throw the runner out. your practically helpless as in a infielder in that situation.

I know, but since they are clearly going for the sac, you should just get the ball and at least get one out. Instead Avila tried to press his luck and it didn't work. If it were up to me, that's an error. Get the damn out.

Very interesting news. I knew about this but couldn't post up on it until it was actually public and completed.

This has been a rumor for weeks. What did you broker the deal or something?

Uh, no. I have family and friends that work with those involved. No need for the snark, BRB. I assume you are able to post without it.

Oh good, another reason for me to hate that franchise.

Russell Martin signed with the Pirates. Wonder what the Yanks are gonna do now.

maybe they feel romine is ready to bring up next year. either way im sure they'll figure something out. as much as martin was good defensively you cant have a guy hitting .190 in your lineup every day.

I heard he got 2 years/$17MM from Pittsburgh and was offered 2 years/$14MM from the Yankees. Interesting.

As much as I despise Pierzynski I hope Yankees consider him on a 1 year deal. There's just no one else out there. Napoli isn't really a catcher so after AJ next best catcher is probably Kelly Shoppach.

Good for Mets. If Wright didnt agree to an extension they would have to trade him. Cant have another Reyes situation by letting Wright walk for nothing.

I hope the Yankees stay away from Pierzynski. I have despised him for a long time. Let a young kid play or bring in a vet stop-gap. Even if the guy hits .240, is that so much worse than what Martin gave them last year?

Wouldn't .240 be a significant upgrade from what Martin was hitting? I could swear the guy flirted with the Mendoza line all year.

Yeah, the difference was that Martin hit 20HR if I am not mistaken. Hell, I would be okay with Cervelli!

The Yankees need to be at $189M in 2014 to not pay any luxury tax and get revenue sharing rebates. Paying $8.5M for Martin doesn't help their cause. $10M-$11M of that money goes towards benefits.

So Stewart/Cervelli depending on the pitcher, and Romine when he's ready? Martin's bat wasn't hot but I liked him behind the plate. Let out a big nooooo! when I heard he signed elsewhere.

From a pure batting average standpoint, yes. But Martin is also patient, taking a lot of walks, and hits for power. He had a .714 OPS last season despite hitting just .211.
