Patrick White: Late Bloomer?

A little blast from the recent past...

Was scouring HockeyDB for stats... and came across Patrick White's stats from last yr..

This was with Klostersee EHC, of the Germany's Oberliga.

40 gms, 32g 70 pts.
Topped his team in scoring as a 22 yr old... 36 pts clear of the 3rd place player on his team.
- 5th in league scoring. (5th in goals as well)

Obviously relatively weak competition... but the numbers were impressive for a kid that has never had impressive numbers.

This season.. he's playing for the Hannover Indians in Germany's 2.Bundesliga.

Not as impressive so far playing for a crappy team... but is 2nd in team scoring with a modest 13 pts in 18 gms. 40th in league scoring.

Likely may never see the NHL... but kinda now cheering for him to do well over there and earn another crack in the NHL down the road.

Just 23.

Anyways... There's your much anticipated Patrick White update...

Might have turned the corner, but I doubt he's close to NHL material at all. Guy hasn't even played in the ECHL let alone AHL. Wow. Wonder what Nonis was thinking.

David Perron:

24 years old, 173 NHL points in 292 games

Patrick White:

23 years old, Would be lucky to play in North America again

In short:
- Screw the Canucks management at that time
- Who is Patrick White?

Sure he can score in a German league, try him in the SEL, then we'll talk.

lol...^^

That's kinda why i'm cheering for him.. he took so much grief for something he could never control... being drafted as a 1st rounder.

If he was just selected a handful of picks later... no one would care about his struggles.

Feel sorry for him with people 'pissin on his grave' if you will...

I have no problem with Patrick at all. Nonis just had probably the worst draft in history at that draft.

The 2nd German league is worse quality than the Austrian 1st league. Alex Grenier is currently putting up similar numbers there at a much younger age. That should tell you all you need to know about Patrick White. at the title...

Is everyone already forgetting what he did for this organization? Daniel Rahimi and cap space weren't the only parts of that deal.

All the best to him in his hockey career & wouldn't it be something if he some how made it in 1 NHL game.

Thanks again Nonis! Perron would look nice on the 2nd line.... having Ehrhoff for a few seasons was nice though.

I'm not up on European leagues, is Germany 2 league up to par with the ECHL?

As for White, if he makes it to the KHL or AHL, let alone the NHL, it would be a shock. This pick was one of many Nonis mistakes that sank him as GM.

Sometimes they are well-deserved.

Anyways, thought this was pretty spot on...

Except the top 5 picks part.

The skaters are in the same ballpark, but the goaltending would be substantially worse. The Oberliga, where he was last year, is another step down from there, on the level of a bad low-minors league or good senior league here.

His numbers last year were playing in Germany's 3rd league... a league significantly worse than the ECHL... just saying.

He could probably end up developing into a decent DEL player if he stays in Germany, which would be great for him.

Still a brutal pick.

Based on what did he get picked in the first round for? His college numbers were nothing to special.

I still want Delorme fired. Preferably out of a cannon. Into a brick wall.

It's kinda perfect that Perron scored his first NHL hat trick on November 10, 2009 against the Vancouver Canucks.

Sadly, that is one of those misses that is going to haunt this team for years.

Has anybody gone back and looked at the rest of the draft. There are an unusually high amounts of busts/future busts.

These leagues sounds like the IHL over here. Pure garbage players who have no future as a pro league guy but still play.
I know a guy who plays in the IHL and is just the biggest booze hound, tho I truly enjoyed some of his glory stories. Least his were on the ice and not the road as mine were.

Either way good for Patty to actually have some type of success, just don't ever come back to the West Coast. I'd be affriad for his life with some of the posters on these sites hate for him.

San Jose wasn't trading for Patrick White, they were trading for the 2nd round compensation pick that we were going to get for not signing a first rounder to a contract.

Anyways it's not so much a possible late bloomer as it is an example of where busts may end up when they can't cut it in the big league. You can say good for him for still being able to have a career playing hockey, I know I'd gladly play the game for a regular office salary paycheque, but that's about it.
